From Yogi Tea

The perfect way to soothe an irritated throat is with a cup of our Throat Comfort tea. In this gently effective herbal formula, we combine slippery elm bark and mullein for their usefulness in relieving minor irritation in the mucous membranes of the throat. We also include wild cherry bark for both its soothing effects and pleasant fruity flavor. Our unique formula helps create a protective slippery coating along the throat lining,* and its naturally sweet taste gives both children and adults something to sing about!

Ingredients:
Licorice Root Fennel Seed Wild Cherry Bark Cinnamon Bark Orange Peel Slippery Elm Bark Cardamom Ginger Root Mullein Leaf Clove Bud Black Pepper

Bring water to boiling and steep 7 minutes.
For a stronger tea, use 2 tea bags. Drink 3-6 cups daily.
To warm up or soothe the throat, such as for singing or public speaking, sip as needed throughout the day.*

Best bagged tea for coating the throat, hands-down.
Tastes mostly of licorice, cherry, and cinnamon (read: very cough-syrup-y), but it’s tolerable if you add honey.
Temporarily alleviates that awful tickly throat feeling at the beginnings and endings of head colds. I swear it also helped with my cough.
Benefits only apply during consumption of the cuppa. Once the tea is gone, it seems to have no residual benefits.

This is my go to remedy for whenever I’m sick or when my throat is bothering me. I just got back from Dragon Con and between all the sing-a-longs and parties my throat is shot, but this tea has soothed my throat so well and really eases the discomfort. I also really enjoy the taste. It is a very strong, spicy tea but I like that about this tea. It gives it a unique flavor that reminds me of home-cooked meals at my friends house who’s family moved to Georgia from India.

Definitely not your every-day tea… But still pretty good and such a life-saver for those days when you just can’t ignore a scratchy throat! The smell/taste of licorice root (quite frankly, a smell/taste I’ve grown accustomed to with every Yogi Tea) is quite overpowering… but, mixed with a bit of honey, this drink does some seriously magic for soothing an overworked or otherwise-ill throat! We ordered a huge box of these from Amazon and plan on drinking it as needed (hopefully not too often!).

My throat started getting scratchy again today. Not sure what this is about, but I brought a bag of this with me just in case, so I’m glad I did. It’s not helping as much today, though, just making my mouth taste like sweet fennel licorice.

LOVE this when I’m feeling ill (I have asthma and sinus issues, so that’s often). A sweet herbal blend with notes of fennel and pepper. Especially nice for the throat with a bit of honey added.

Took a walk down to the farmer’s market today, maybe getting loaded up on fruits and vegetables will be good for my immune system??

Anyway I decided I was going to pick this up on the way home and drink some today. Here’s the ingredients list:
Licorice Root
Fennel Seed
Wild Cherry Bark
Cinnamon Bark
Orange Peel
Slippery Elm Bark
Cardamom Seed
Ginger Root
Mullein Leaf
Clove Bud
Black Pepper

This is like a cornucopia of spices, but not exactly pleasant tasting. It seems like a spicy licorice soup if you ask me. Aside from the licorice there’s also black pepper and ginger that seem really strong. It’s a bit like a chai but not nearly as palatable. I would not recommend this solely on the basis of the flavor, but it is a medicinal tea after all. Hopefully it will do the trick and help dispel my germs. I used two teabags for a large mug of tea.

My goodness, if that list of ingredients doesn’t make you feel better, I don’t know what will!
Feel better :-)

If it wasn’t for that nasty licorice :) Unfortunately, I think that’s the key throat-soothing ingredient.

TeaBrat

I don’t hate licorice as much as other people seem to. It does always overwhelm everything else in a tea though.

Plunkybug

I hate everything licorice-like, so that includes fennel and anise as well. Some types of cinnamon too.

Plunkybug

But yeah, it’s a key factor in the sore throat stuff.

This is one of my favorite herbal blends, ever. I have noticed that a lot of people who’ve reviewed it don’t like it, and I definitely can understand that. It has the taste of fennel (licorice) and licorice in it… and I freakin’ hate licorice, BUT the slippery elm bark and other spices really calm it down and turn it into something that’s so balmy and delicious I can’t even begin to describe it. I’m just guessing that this is a tea that a lot of people don’t care for because of the licorice. But I like it, and it’s perfect for sore throats, singers, and anything to make your throat feel better. A little sugar, and it’s ambrosia. I love it. I brew this tea for 10 minutes, with boiling water. Sometimes with two teabags, if it’s a big cup :)

As a singer and a tea enthusiast I can’t say enough good things about throat comfort. It is never heavy, always calming and has the most pleasing sweetness. Never have I enjoyed a hint of licorice so much. I’m not a very attentive steeper so take take my steep time with a grain of salt. I highly recommend this tea.

I drink many cups of tea every time I get a cold. I find it helps more than just my throat too. Although if I drink too much on an empty stomach it gets upset…
