From Yezi Tea

This light and delicate loose-leaf tea comes from the Jian’ou County of the Fujian province of China. Yezi’s White Peony is brought to you by local tea farmer Yu Qizhao.

The White Peony is only produced from spring leaves that are dried in natural sunlight on bamboo trays. White Peony has a slight, sweet taste with overtones of peach and plum. The tea is low in caffeine and makes for a quiet, pleasant, and meditative evening companion.

I decided to have this light, calming tea for an after dinner treat alongside some macarons. The flavors in this tea are so light and subtle that it was a little overpowered by the sweet macarons I was eating. Nevertheless, I enjoyed the sweet, slightly hay-like flavor of the tea. I think that white teas are really starting to grow on me. I’ll have to do some more exploring in terms of white teas!

Really enjoyed this tea! Almond, vegetal aroma; grassy, woody, floral taste. Didn’t taste banana at all. Reminded me of flower stalks. Light-bodied, very delightful experience. Brewed 5 times gongfu style as per the Yezi Tea page suggestion.

Brewing this in my gaiwan the initial scent after a quick rinse surprised me. It smelled so much like banana. I mean like Now & Later banana, but in a very subtle way. The first tasting had a little of the same banana but was more reminiscent of dried papaya. It has an acidic quality that brings a brightness to the cup, and reminds me almost of the smell of a hair salon. All of this comes together nicely for a mellow, bright, sweet fragrant light tea. It is perfect for the finishing touch on a long day, which is exactly how I am using it now.

Got this sample with a Yezi purchase,,thanks!!!!

From Jian’ou Co.; Fujian Province, China.

Dry leaf has the distinctive chopped-looking grey-green leaves with scents of cream.
Wet leaf turns greener than other white peony I have had. I guess this is the high grade quality!!! It has scents of wheat & oat.
Liquor is a light golden pearl, scents of cream and honey.
Flavor is light subtle cream, honey, fresh & clean. Really excellent Bai Mu Dan!!!!!

Not tasting a whole lot. Added 1/2 packet of Stevia in the Raw (I just don’t like unsweetened tea). Flavor is very subtle. Paid attention to the brewing time (1 minute)…finally learning to do that!

Edited: The second steep, I liked a lot better. Added the other 1/2 of the sweetener, and upped the time to 2 minutes. I liked this tea better than I thought I would, and may actually order more (this was a sample for me).
