Snagged this at T&T earlier in the week. I don’t know why I bought another of these flavours given that I was so underwhelmed by the Pear & Osmanthus one from a few weeks ago. I guess I saw that the shelves were pretty picked clean compared to a lot of the other teas in the aisle and I just wondered if maybe they were more popular than I realized and I’d just gotten a bad flavour the first time…
Anyway, this was totally fine. Definitely more enjoyable than the Pear & Osmanthus, but not exactly exceptional either. The most notable thing about it is the colour it steeped. Very, very dark and saturated purple that was very unlike most other teas I’ve tried. Like, I’m trying to think of an example of something that steeped similarly without added hibiscus and butterfly pea flower (neither of which were in this blend) and I don’t think I can!?
Taste wise, it has that sort of stale/dried fruit note that I’d expect from a tea that is, well, just dried fruits. No flavourings, acidifiers, or other flavour amplifiers. It through me out with the first few sips, but it wasn’t as egregious as I’ve tasted before and I did pretty quickly acclimate to it. The rose notes stand out to me, but aren’t too perfumey and intense. Hard to describe the fruit notes as anything other than “dark and berry-ish” but without the jammy intensity or sweetness.
I’ll try adding my own sweetener in the future and see how that shakes things up!
