From Xiaguan Tea Factory

2007 Xiaguan Fei Tai #4 Premium Raw 400g
The Xiaguan 2007 Fei Tai (FT) #4 Premium Raw Pu-erh Tea Cake was produced from a blend of premium material from 2004,2005,2006 and was blended in the traditional style of other Xiaguan products. This FT release is higher quality than regular Xiaguan productions and it shows in the taste of the tea. The look of the leaves themselves is a dark green and brown color and they are strong with bud and leaf sets on a stem. The leaves are somewhat broken. This cake was tightly compressed using a hydraulic press. The liquor color is a thick gold-yellow. The drinker will notice the pungent aroma that is characteristic of Xiaguan teas. The after-taste is sweet and there is a mouth-watering effect that happens quickly. Notice the aroma at the bottom of your drinking cup after each infusion. This is really an excellent tea.
Process: Picked, sun-dried, and Compressed.
Date Stamp: July 16, 2007
Production area: Wu Liang and Bao Shan.
Total production limited to 4000 kilograms.

Tight press. Pretty light taste with medium thick body. Sweeter front and back.
Several steeps in and with cooler water, there’s a bitter fruit and stone fruit finish.
Unnamable spice in front.
Relaxing qi.

10+ steeps in – light and sweet but keeps going

A decent tea and an above average xiaguan production. After a year in my pumidor the smell is getting more complex: a nice mix of sweetness, wood, tobacco, some fruits and just enough smoke to make it interesting. The taste is similar to the nose with good sweetness, bit of kuwei and some aftertaste. Good durability without turning rough in the late long steeps (what is rare for plantation teas). Some residual astringency which should transform with further age. Not a tea which will thrill you but a good mid aged sheng with a refined xiaguan profile.

Excellent review. Where can this tea be bought?

Thanks. Mine is from yunnan sourcing. they offer samples too, although the outcome might be a bit different than from a cake (as usual).

Deep mustiness with a touch of fruitiness on the after taste. Earthy tones covered in smokiness.
