From white2tea

A very unique tea. This rich and decadent black tea has aromas reminiscent of strawberries and fleshy red fruits. Sweet and thick throughout, our Strawberry Lapsang is ideal for an engaging gongfu tea session or as an after dinner dessert tea.

This style of tea is often called Zhengshan Xiaozhong, which is interchangeable with the name Lapsang Souchong. From the Wuyi region of Fujian province.

Working on sipping through a bag, and while the first couple cups were super fruity this one is all floral and honey. Really delicious, as I love this flavor profile, but unexpected!

I got a sample of all of the W2T lapsangs to compare. This is an interesting one.
“strawberry” is surprisingly accurate, though it’s subtle. The taste reminds me specifically of the aftertaste of freshly picked strawberries — a taste I’ve not encountered in tea before. Definitely don’t go in expecting bold candy-like strawberry-ness though.

My sample had a noticeable amount of sticks and yellow leaves among the leaves, but those clearly don’t hamper the taste. The best session I’ve had with this tea so far was gong fu with quite a lot of leaf. In a (for me more usual) 5~6g/100ml gong fu session I mostly noticed the aforementioned strawberry notes (along more typical lapsang flavors), but adding more leaf brought out an impressive aroma of tropical fruits and orange zest, and later steeps had notes of blueberry and dates I hadn’t noticed before. A very nice thick texture too, though not as “luxurious” as the Fruit Bomb Lapsang.
When brewed western style I thought it was a bit unremarkable. Not bad, but definitely not at its best.

This might actually be my favorite of the 2020 White2Tea lapsang souchongs.

Gongfu Sipdown (1068)!

It’s only a temporary sipdown though because I’ve already ordered some more of it for myself!! I’m happy I did so because this Lapsang was reeaaalllyyyy weird but also really damn good!! Firstly, the name is accurate! There’s an acidic sharpness to the top of the sip, and sweeter red fruit note in the body that combined taste eerily like a just slightly under ripe strawberry. It’s also a bit malty and a little woody, with a floral undertone that really picked up a steep or two into the session! Pretty thick liquor, good longevity overall and honestly just unique and interesting! I would totally recommend this to fans of Fruit Bomb, or anyone who just wants to try a really unique and tasty unsmoked Lapsang!

I’ve never tried an unsmoked Lapsang, but I am intrigued, and the application of strawberry to it sounds like a stroke of genius :)

Love your teaware, and that photo in general! I don’t even love strawberries and I want to check this one out! :)

While I have opened the W2T website few days back, I saw it in stock and was curious, if it is actually strawberry like. Now… I want to give it a try :D
