From white2tea

Classical Yiwu style old arbor tea from Rui Chang Xiang. Sweet, smooth, and easy to drink without lacking in depth and character. This tea is elegant and purely dry stored, so the original fragrance and character of the tea remain completely intact. A suitable tea for drinking and aging, it is just on the cusp of middle age after being stored in dry conditions since 2007.

For lovers of Yiwu and old arbor tea, this is a beautiful example of slowly matured Yiwu gushu.

Spent the day drinking this one. It was part of the W2T club box that OMGsrsly and I shared. We decided to drink this one today, and I had high hopes for it as this is probably one of the most expensive teas that I’ve tried.

12 steeps later and I’m totally indifferent to this. It’s not bad – it’s not good. It’s not worth the price.
The first few steeps a little bitter (with steep 3 being the most) – a little sheng – a little sweet – but mostly just boring. There was a little creaminess about steep 5 and it thickened on the mouth feel. Basically though this didn’t really change that much through the steeps.
Always nice to share a tea with a friend – just wish this had been a better tea.

I think Yiwu is a bit soft for me. I like a bit more kick in general.

I lost my detailed note, and the summary was: Meh. ;)

Wow, this is a $600 cake! It is awesome that I get to try this through the tea club! I probably wouldn’t have tried it otherwise. I went with about half of the sample, roughly 6g. Two rinses and a steep, and the liquor is sweet and creamy, and light creamy yellow in color. In the second steep, I noticed a nice spicy tobacco aroma from the lid of the gaiwan, but I wasn’t yet picking it up in the taste. In the third steep, the spicy tobacco note started to come through in the taste…it was incredibly creamy. All I wrote for the fourth steep was “mmmmm”!

I actually stopped after several steepings, and let the leaf dry on a plate for another day. A large part was still stuck together in cake form!

I was able to enjoy more steepings two days later. It just kept going and going, getting sweeter and sweeter. I finally decided I needed another break, so put the leaf in the fridge to cold-steep. It’ll be interesting to see how that goes! Overall, this is a fantastic tea, and I’m so glad that I was able to try it through the tea club!
