From white2tea

A blend of Yunnan raw Puer, sent to a smokehouse in Tongmuguan village in Fujian to be pine smoked by a veteran Lapsang smoker. The three day smoking process occurs at temperatures from 100C to 120C in an old style Lapsang smokehouse.

A natural fit for cigar lovers and Scotch whisky fanatics who want tea in the morning, but this tea is a surprise that will likely garner even fans who are wary of smoke as well.

Strong bitterness and full body with heavy feeling. Top quality huangpian elevated with the added dimension of the flame. Seared leather and tobacco notes underneath the smoke cloud. Burly intensity when pushed, with a dynamic character that will only improve with age.

Pressed in 2020. Each cake is 200g. The cakes are wrapped in bamboo leaf tongs, with five cakes per tong.

For aging, we recommend that smoked teas be sealed and separated from other teas, as the fresh smoke will pass along to the teas next to it. Or you can keep them with your cigars.

For the moment, I’m drinking this tea Western-style in a large, oversized “camping” mug. The kind you cradle with both hands while sipping from it. This more experimental white tea is interesting because, though it is smoky throughout, the top of the sip is really sweet with notes of peach jam and just a little marmalade before those fruitier elements swap places with the undertones of petrichor and wet rocks; creating a clean, earthy and smoked tinged mineral finish. It’s still raining this afternoon, so something smooth and smoky with elements of petrichor (my fave smell) is right at home with the quiet, melancholic atmosphere brought on by the steady pitter-patter of rain outside my windows…
