From white2tea

Pressed in 2021 using a blend of older material, this production of our classic shou Puer has been rested nearly a year before release.

Our classic Waffles blend in a super convenient form. A shou Puer tea with a sweet, easily approachable character, pressed into a convenient waffle pattern that can be broken apart without the use of a tea needle. An excellent everyday ripe Puer tea, with a soft sweetness and a smooth warming body. A well balanced ripe Puer tea for beginners or veteran drinkers alike.

Lovely tea session today with 2021 Waffles, grandpa style thermos brewed at my desk. For reference, I used the whole 7g mini in my 500ml thermos, added boiling water and left it for ~2 hours before drinking. Once close to empty I topped up with fresh boiling water.

This shou remained fairly linear throughout. It’s quite sweet with light compost notes initially, and then a whole lot of maple. It’s very smooth and syrupy, and just an all-round perfect fit for its name. Later, lighter steeps have notes of cream, raw flour, and crystal sugar which are also super appropriate AND delicious! This is such a good cold day comfort tea, especially for the price point.

From CameronB!  Thank you again!  A lone tiny mini waffle.  This MIGHT be my first mini anything from white2tea?  I’m excited to try it.  This tiny waffle fits perfectly in the bottom of my infuser basket.  I don’t know if that will help it infuse… Honestly, the amount of leaf here is probably less than I would use in a mug for a ripe puerh.  The flavor is fine — a bit starchy, nothing negative about it.  I would expect magical waffle flavor, even if in the back of my mind I know that is a stretch… but it seems like plain puerh to me.   The second steep possibly did have more waffle qualities… more bready.  The third weakened a bit.  But the fourth is rich and coffee like… just the way I like it!  The tiny waffles might lead to more expectation than otherwise, but the flavor here was decent enough if you want a cup of ripe puerh. I would say white2tea’s description is accurate anyway!
Steep #1 // 24 minutes after boiling // 2 minute steep
Steep #2 //  12 minutes after boiling // 2 min
Steep #3 //  9 min after boiling // 5 min
Steep #4 // just boiled // 12 min
2023 sipdowns: 101

I’m in a rush to find some low-hanging-fruit-last-session-sipdowns for the last few days of the year, to up my sipdown number….

Distinct sweetness on the nose. Molasses, maybe. Marine and somewhat surprising mineral elements on the lid of my pot. No storage, funk, wood, dirt, or camphor. I wouldn’t go so far as to call this traditionally mossy or forest floory, but there is something reminiscent of dried Spanish moss, the stringy-puffy stuff that’s used by florists. The body appears thickish on the pour, but ends up feeling rather thin. Not apparently sweet in the mouth — more a suggestion in the smell. Easy, unchallenging, a little boring. Nice enough feels and spread in the body.
