From Verdant Tea

Autumn is a great time to get together and tell stories around a fire. We wanted a “storytelling” tea that kept the hands warm and the evening flowing without having to worry about caffeine. Entirely herbal and caffeine-free, this blend is great for the evenings.

Usually citrus, vanilla and spice pair perfectly with a Yunnan black tea, but we used a combination of carob and toasted Minnesota wild rice as the dark and hearty base. The citrus and sweet flavors of orange and vanilla linger on the palate -warm and comforting.

Aww, I’m sad to be finishing off this sample! This is a tasty herbal blend, and really unique. It has a similar flavor to Verdant’s Citrus Spice, minus the black tea. A creamy mix of citrus and vanilla, but it’s the spices that make it interesting. There are some sweet -tasting ingredients here (cinnamon, carob, elderberries). But there’s also coriander and ginger, which give it an almost savory undertone. And the flavor is stronger than I expected, given that some herbals can turn out a bit watery. It’s almost like drinking a combination of spice tea and chicken noodle soup. And it’s delicious!

Cozy, comforting, and caffeine-free. I’m seriously tempted to order more of this, even though my cupboard is way overcrowded—if only because I need more caffeine-free blends in my life.

Tea & Chocolate TTB
Hmm this id s little spicy, a little bit orange, cream vanilla goodness. This is like a mellow chai, and I bet it would make a phenomenal chai latte, too bad I don’t have any milk. The rice is the blend makes me think of genmaicha, especially when unsweetened. But add a little sweetener and the roasty toasty goodness mellows out a bit and the spicy orange cream takes center stage. Both sweet and unsweet are super tasty.

I can see this pairing well with dark chocolate with orange, or even dark chocolate with chili.

I am delighted I bought some of this. I’ve been drinking more herbal tea lately and I had none left, so I had to get a bunch from Verdant I haven’t tried before. I hope they’re all as good as this one!

This is a deliciously warming tea. Cinnamon is the dominant flavor (which equals happiness, by the way). The toasted rice and carob add the ‘comfort factor’ for me. Even though Orange peel is the first ingredient, it doesn’t add to much citrus flavor. I think it just adds some brightness.

Even better, this is good for several steepings! I’m currently on my third cup and the flavor has only increased. (45s, 1 min 30s, 3 min).
This is one to keep around!

The loose leaf smelled wonderful and spicy. The brewed leaf smelled the same. That’s where it ended though. For some reason it barely had any flavor. I added a sugar cube and it helped a little but I think I’ll finish up my last bit and not repurchase.

Cheri

I hate when a tea smells so good and then just doesn’t have that taste. Ah well.

Another tea sent to me by the lovely and benevolent Sarsonator! Apparently she doesn’t much care for this one. It looks like a mix of various stuff. There are huge pieces of something that resembles bark, is this what carob looks like? It seems to be mostly dried orange peel with some wild rice, elderberries, and spices mixed in. It smells quite similar to Elder Grove by Whispering Pines, probably because of the cinnamon. I steeped 1.5-2 teaspoons for 5 minutes.

Wow! Brewed, this smells exactly like hot, gooey cinnamon rolls with orange glaze on top. Yummmmm. I must say, I don’t understand how anyone could not like this tea! It tastes like a combination of cinnamon rolls and apple pie! Somewhat similar to Elder Grove but with pastry notes and orange included. This is super delicious! Sarsonator, you crazy! ;)

LOL. Awesome review! I’ll give this one another try. But I dunno if I can make friends with the cinnaBLARGH!!!

TheTeaFairy

i do like your review cameron…but oh, no, no, no…this tea did NOT sit well with me. All I could taste was CORIANDER !!!

And though I like coriander in my food, cannot stand it in a hot beverage….but I’ m so happy you had such a great experience with it :-)

Cameron B.

Oh, I forgot you don’t like cinnamon. That makes a lot more sense now. :P

Cameron B.

TeaFairy, hmm I’m not super familiar with coriander, but I didn’t really get any other spice besides cinnamon. Hrm!

Finishing off my sample. I didn’t care for it much at first but I am realizing now it makes a good “sick” tea. I’m coming down with something and I wanted something herbal, citrusy, something I can heap with honey. Driving home from work I kept thinking about my cupboard and what I could drink. I lack in the herbal department. And then I remembered I had this which fits the bill perfectly!! It’s got spices, it’s got cirrus, you can add a wedge of lemon to it no problem and a nice dollop of honey. Blanket, book and you’re set. Maybe I should not have scoffed ad DAVID’s “cold 911” ad. Yep, this is definitely a good tea for when you’ve got the sniffles and the sore throat.

Terri HarpLady

Hopefully you’ll feel better soon!

Tuscanteal

Feel better!

Nxtdoor

Thank you kindly :)

yyz

Hope you fight it off quickly!

mrmopar

I was thinking about you yesterday! Hate to hear you down with something. Hope you feel better my friend!

Nxtdoor

@mrmopar thank you, was thinking of you also. :) so far it’s just a minor cold. It just sucks when it hurts to swallow. I see lots of hot tea this w/e. Pu’erh with honey???

Oh no, no, no, this is not working for me.

A while ago, I told Dexter I had never tried Verdant’s blends and she was generous enough to send me a few.

This morning, reading Sarsonator ’s review, I realized I still had this sample.

She wrote in her review that it was “orange and weird”, and I must agree with her. There’s something off in this. I actually love all the ingredients part of this blend and I have to rule them all out except one.

The culprit: coriander.

I like coriander, but it belongs in my food. And there is a lot in this sample! I think the proportion of ingredients is unbalanced.

It tastes like citrus peel with a little cinnamon and lots of coriander.

Too bad, cause it has potential, but it’s just not for me.

Thank you Dexter for sending me some, now I know I don’t have to buy it :-)

MzPriss

Unfortunate :(

SarsyPie

Hhmmmmm coriander. Mystery solved. I guess you won’t be wanting me to send you the rest of my 1oz bag. :p

TheTeaFairy

Yes, now I’m gonna eat cherries to wash my mouth :-) It’s not as if I had some amazing Gulf oysters on the grill tonight, but cherries will have to do for now;-)

TheTeaFairy

Lol, Sarsonator, I thanked you for that on your post, you are so sweet for offering, but yes, I’m gonna pass, you are stuck with it for now, (unless you want to give it another chance???)

Cameron B.

I’m willing to brave the coriander villain if you want to send me some! Muahaha! :P

SarsyPie

I noticed that so e people really liked it when I checked the tasting notes! Maybe my boyfriend will like it!

SarsyPie

Oh super, Cameron! PM me your info and it’s all yours!

MzPriss

The amazing grilled Gulf oysters were pretty amazing. so was the fromage blanc and ripe plum gelato :O

But you have CHERRIES

SarsyPie

I have avocados. In case anyone wondered. :p

MzPriss

I want really awesome cherries that didn’t travel 1500 miles

TheTeaFairy

Avocados totally rock also Sarsonator ;-)

TheTeaFairy

We’d have to move to Michigan MzPriss…. Sour cherries :-)

boychik

Vanilla Citrus blend also has coriander so I couldn’t take it either. I like coriander in rye bread only

Sil

i love this blend and vanilla citrus spice…you just have to steep them for like 10 mins

TeaLady441

Oooh – good tip!

Nxtdoor

Uh-oh.. I ordered this!

TheTeaFairy

I had enough left for one more cup so I tried the 10 min steep…but still…way too much CORIANDER!!!

TheTeaFairy

But thanks for the tip Sil, it was worth trying :-)
Now I need a mouthwash tea!!

MzPriss

Oh no! Have a cup of Laoshan Black with me – it will make it all better

TheTeaFairy

LB is next!! Thanks for the invite :-)

Sil

hahahaha i don’t even notice the coriander lol

Method: 1 tbsp, 8 oz, 205 degrees, 10 minutes, French Press

Dry Leaf Aroma: Orange, spice, chocolate. Smells like orange cake.

Brewing Aroma: Orange & weird. Something smells odd. Can’t place it.

Flavor: I sampled some at 3 minutes and 6 minutes. The flavor was weak, so I let it go for 10. Even after 10 minutes, this has a mild flavor. I was hoping for more orange, but this tastes predominantly of cinnamon. The orange is a whisper. I have loved some of Verdant’s teas, but I seem to be striking out with their herbals. Too much cinnamon for me.

205 °F / 96 °C 8 min or more 3 tsp 8 OZ / 236 ML
TheTeaFairy

Thanks for the review, glad I didn’t order, don’t think it’s my style…

SarsyPie

If you like cinnamon, you’d like this. If not, then no. :p

TheTeaFairy

But I do love cinnaNOM!!! I got distracted by your “aroma of orange & weird”, lol.

I just realized I have a sample from Dexter…will try it later!

SarsyPie

Eeeeeew, you like cinnaBLARGH!!!!! LOL. Try your sample. If you like it, I’ll send you all mine! : p

TheTeaFairy

Lol, cinnaBLARGH was not the problem here…you were right: weird!! Thanks for offering to send me the rest of you stash though, but I’m gonna pass, haha!

Tonights blend accompanied with a crispbread sandwish :)

Hm this feels like a wintertea, full of spicy cinnamon. I cant really say yes or no, it is ok but not great. Perhaps it would be a good with some rice porridge?

Flavors: Cinnamon

Preparation
Boiling 1 min, 0 sec 4 g 7 OZ / 200 ML
Terri HarpLady

I like it with a little maple syrup or stevia :)

Dag Wedin

ah perhaps some sweetening brings out the flavour. It sure did in that Yabao snickerdoodle tea.

This tastes really “homey” to me if that makes sense. I really enjoy this, but next time, I think I would steep in a tea bag rather than my steeper because I am still tasting it today.

This is a really nice citrus vanilla herbal selection. I need to have more herbals in my tea collection!
