Bergamot Rose Laoshan Black

I’m starting my morning off with this yummy concoction. The very popular Laoshan black is skillfully blended with organic lemon peel, orange peel, rose petals, and bergamot. The nuances shift as the tea cools, with the bergamot becoming more pronounced. The rose is very subtle. I actually enjoy Laoshan Black in blends such as this and Laoshan Village Chai more than straight up. I sweetened this with some stevia, but my husband enjoyed it unsweetened. I’d like to try it iced next summer, as the website suggests.

I am not going to add a negative rating for this. It would be unfair to drop this tea’s rating when it is a personal hatred for bergamot AND roses – especially since it was sent as a free sample. I am willing to trade this if anyone is interested.

I like how freshly floral, clean smelling (that wonderful soapy-clean-in-a-good-way thing bergamot is all about…I don’t care for rose when it has that musty dusty aura about it but the bergamot makes it sparkle here) this is in the beginning, and how as it develops after steeping and in the mouth it gets thicker, deeper, less like taking a flower bath and more chocolate-y. A nice alternative to more conventional Earls for those occasions when you need something a little different. And I can definitely see how turning this into syrup for tea soda would make an excellent drink. Tempted to mess around with that concept and add gin…

This tea is gorgeous! It smells amazing (lovely bergamot) and it looks charming with the rose petals. Just the sight of it puts a smile on my face!

When I poured in the hot water the tea immediately separated: rose petals to the top, tea to the bottom, and orange peel going either way. The smell of roses is really coming out as it steeps. Mm… the scent of roses is one of my favorite smells. It’s so relaxing to me!

The tea itself smells great too, now I’m smelling all the elements. Who would have thought chocolatey Laoshan Black would blend with bergamot and rose? Well, Verdant did, obviously! Good idea, guys.

This is a whole different story from the Laoshan Genmaicha I tried. This has a sweetness from the rose petals and a hint of Earl Grey… but it’s so much more than a simple EG. It resteeps nicely, too! The flavors change, of course. The rose is a little washed out and the tea base comes in stronger.

You have done it again, Verdant! Another order, so soon? I’m tempted! Plus, I’ve had my eye on some teaware… not that I need it — we’re moving! Buying more breakable things would be a bad plan. Thank you for this beautiful blend!

Had a steeping of this wonderful tea yesterday. I was surprised and the attention to the level of bergamot in this blend. I did not immediately think, “I’m drinking Earl Grey!” In fact, the amount of bergamot adds a delicate amount of citrus to compliment the Laoshan Black. This was great in its “pure” state, but not being a purist I will next time try adding some honey or a touch of rock sugar to see how the flavor changes.

I’ve never had Laoshan black before but it might be my new love. It certainly stands up to the citrus flavor while adding something delicious all its own. It’s a terrific exception the usual situation where I can’t taste the tea in my flavored teas. Because I apparently compare everything to supermarket teas, this would surprisingly not replace Earl Grey in the cabinet – it would replace Lemon Lift. It’s expertly blended though, with this incredible tea base, bright citrus, and gentle rose. I look forward to trying any other Laoshan I can get my hands on. Mmm.

Probably shouldn’t be drinking another tea at this time, but oh well. I wanted to give it a try. At least I didn’t choose the Yunnan White Jasmine. Now that would’ve kept me up all night. That’ll wait for tomorrow to be sampled.

Anyway, this tea isn’t joking around when it says ‘rose.’ In fact, there’s probably around three teaspoons of tea in this 1oz pouch, haha. But it was sort of the point to be a blend, and laoshan black is very potent, so if you want to taste much of anything else it does kind of need to be toned down.

Anyway, this is very nice! For some people who found Laoshan black too roasty, and don’t mind a rosey floral taste, this may be a good alternative! The rose petals and the bergamot make this much sweeter and it’s not really roasty at all. You taste just enough of the laoshan black to get the chocolatey taste.

I’m not sure I’d order this again, but I’ll be able to to finish this no problem. I’d like it more if the laoshan black was a bit more prominent.

After my disappointment with Fauchon’s Raspberry Macaron I decided I need something tried and true. Always delivers. Dark chocolate, rye bread, rose and citrus( not much actually, maybe it’s getting old). I still love it.
Steeped in gaiwan, short 3 steeps like 15 sec combined in a cup

I brewed this with 200°F for 1.5 minutes.

I love the Laoshan black tea and rose flavored teas, so I knew I would like this. It is a beautiful tea. The rose petals are lovely. The tea is smooth with a strong bergamot taste and rose in the aftertaste. It is really good.
