From Verdant Tea (Special)

Zhu Rong Yunnan Black Tea, with all its sweet, savory notes was just asking for dark berry notes to play with. We added Goji berries and elderberry, bringing them out with cacao, carob, and vanilla. The result is creamy, dark, sweet and subtle black tea blend perfect for early spring.
Use 5g inn an 8 oz cup or teapot…steep with boiling water for 30 seconds.

This tea has aged ridiculously well, considering how old it is. The cocoa and goji berries look so good in the dry leaf and the flavour comes through really well, especially with a bit of sweetener added. This just tastes so good, even with the emerging cold I have going.

When I first had this tea, I was contemplating quitting the blends club. I did, but have since rejoined (fickle, fickle, haha). It is blends like this that make me want to stay in (even though July’s box wasn’t my fave). Chocolatey, with bright berry flavor… just really tasty.

I am looking forward to next month’s box, which apparently will be vanilla themed.

I’m so excited for the vanilla teas! :D

Tealizzy

I haven’t really been in the loop on Verdant tea lately, but do they offer the teas to buy separately after they distribute the club box? I love vanilla too, so I’m curious.

Stephanie

The vanilla ones were awfully tempting…

mj

I love the Whispering Pines vanilla teas… I think they’d be hard to beat, but I guess Verdant had to try haha

Sil

vanilla ones made me want to sign up again..

OMGsrsly

Does everything still have coriander seeds in it? That’s one of the reasons I unsubscribed.

Dinosara

Not everything! But still lots of coriander and fennel. I end up attempting to sell one or two blends each month. My biggest wish is that I could get a blends club that didn’t have any herbal blends in it. I never like those, and I’m just not interested in herbals.

Stephanie

Fennel bleeeehhhh

The latest BOMC box arrived yesterday! All the blends look delicious and exciting as usual, although I was a bit wary of the mate blend, definitely not a before bed blend! After smelling all the teas, I decided this one was the one I needed to try first. It smells deliciously of dark chocolate! It looks like there are whole cocoa pieces in the blend, or cacao, whichever it is, along with goji berries and the famed Zhu Rong base. I steeped this for about 2 minutes with 200 degree water. The resulting dark liquor smells of raisins and chocolate. Interesting!

As for the flavor, mmm this is reminding me of a lovely red wine with chocolate. The main flavors are a dry grape-like flavor, raisin like but not as sweet, it reminds me a bit of how Master Han’s Yunnan black tastes, a hint of olive oil in there too! There is also that lovely dark chocolate flavor, a rich flavor that melds with the mild astringency and raisin like notes wonderfully. There’s a sweetness in the middle of the sip that could be attributed to the vanilla as well, although it is faint and not a huge component, just smooths things over.

Overall, this is quite good. It’s rich but light, fresh and filling. All the flavors blend together quite well into a dark chocolate, grape tasting tea. It mainly reminds me of Master Han’s Yunnan Black, but with chocolate added. Very tasty, a perfect tea for a day like today – blanket of fresh, wet snow overnight and temperatures just over zero melting it away. Spring snow day tea!

Omg This is Awesome!!!!
Reminds me of Raisinets with some vanilla.
I love the Zhu Rong Tea, I was totally pleased with my TOTM box this time around New Zhu Rong and a Kick-Ass Zhu Rong blend :)

This one make me think of being at the movies with my Mom eating Raisinets, she really liked those, I think she would have enjoyed this tea too :)

Nicole

I love Raisinets. Though I don’t like raisins on their own. Must be the chocolate. :) This sounds like a tasty blend.

CelebriTEA

I love Raisinets too!
Sorry you didn’t get the chance to enjoy this with your Mom .

mrmopar

She is with you all the time in your heart. Tomorrow April 15th will be 38 years since mom went to heaven. Doesn’t get easier but you will always know by things you see or find later on that she left things for you to help you out. I find something new each year to let me know that.

Yeah but brother we will make it through and know they are always with us. Sometimes we just have to look for the signs they give us.

TeaExplorer

“… they are always with us. Sometimes we just have to look for the signs …”
I wholeheartedly believe that, based upon my own experiences. Both of my parents passed around Thanksgiving yet I see and feel their presence almost every day, and that makes it just a little more bearable.

CelebriTEA

I think we have our own little club here…
yeah we are all feeling the moments
trying to spend as much time as I have left with my Dad…
cheers to you all …have a wonderful day

I have never enjoyed a chocolate tea as much as this!!!
It reminds me of chocolate covered raisins with added berries, and creamy vanilla.
But I steeped it about 4 minutes.
I love a good, deep, rich flavor and I cannot for the life of me,
see getting that from a 30 second steep.
It was far worth the extra steeping time for me…transporting me to Heaven.
