I could smell the fennel in this but not so much taste it… unless its that mapley note. I read you can make maple extract from fennel seeds. Anyway this might be the first ctc bop tea I like the taste of. Could be that I added cream and sweetener but I really enjoyed the tea when I drank it. But as usual, had the worst time trying to sleep after drinking this one. I need a different tea base…

Latte Sipdown (202)

It’s raining and I wanted chai. I was being lazy though and didn’t want to do stove top chai so I picked the flavor I would be least sad about if it didn’t come out well. Then my frother decided to warm but not froth my milk. So I didn’t have high hopes for this one.

Drinking it, it’s not strongly flavoured. That has been the case with all these Vahdam chais – when made like a usual latte, they aren’t very flavourful and they do much better with a stove top prep. That said, the flavor I do get is nice. Mostly cardamom, which I’m okay with.

Fennel! I love fennel. More than life. I don’t even need the chai, just…fennel. Fennel is love. This is another CTC black base, with FENNEL! and clove, cardamom, black pepper, etc. All the usual suspects. It’s deliciously anissedy, as you might expect, but the cardamon and pepper are a nice – less sweet – counterpoint. I like that this is a slightly more unusual chai blend – I found a few from this sampler a little samey, but this one’s on the more unique side. Not quite as unique as some have been, but all for the good! Fennel’s not a stranger to chai, but it’s more prominent here than it usually would be, and I can definitely get behind that. If you like fennel, and you like chai, you probably need to try this one. It’s epic.

It’s a Chai tea that’s on par with the Original Chai from Vahdam, but with fennel added to the mix. I personally don’t like the addition of the fennel seeds. You can smell the fennel very strongly, and you have a hint of fennel when tasting. Somehow for me, the fennel interferes with the otherwise fine Masala Chai taste.

Don’t get me wrong, it’s a very good Chai, but it’s not as good as the regular one Vahdam makes.
