Quality China black (Congou) tea is fermented with rose blossoms, creating a naturally scented, sweet cup. This tea is occasionally referred to as Lotus Tea, but should not be confused with the flavored tea blend bearing that name.

This is my first tasting of a rose scented tea. I enjoy it. It’s uplifting. As I stated in my profile, I do not particularly care for scented teas. I love the aroma. It’s so different and a welcome change of pace. This was another sample from Upton that I will defintely buy. Thanks JM for the suggestion. PS, the price is right….
First time tasting it: The tea base is a little more robust than other rose teas I have tried, and there is also a faint hint of a smokey taste to it for me. The second time I made it, it seemed more mellow, and I did not get any smokey notes. Everything is pretty well balanced on taste and smell. I really like rose mixes for iced teas when the weather is hot, and this is a good option for that.
Smoky in a Lapsang Souchong kind of way? The one LS I had, I DID NOT care for, so if the Rose Congou is kind of like that, probably won’t like it. Generally I adore flower teas, taste and smell wise, particularly rose.
Nah it’s wayyyyy more subtle, in fact when I just had it again after it had sat around and aged a few months I didn’t detect any smokeyness at all. It’s worth a try if you like flowery teas.
Made a huge teapot of this for my friends yesterday. Sweetened the pot with an organic, hand-pressed rosewater sugarcube with charming crushed rose petals. It fit the mood of the rainy spring weather well. We sat by the fire and sipped it while the area around us flooded.
This is take two. I have to say this tea seems better today. I did brew it at a lower temp (exact temp unknown since I’m at work). The black tea’s flavor is gentler in today’s brew and the rose while still not as strong as I’d like is more noticeable. I think my scoop had a few more rose buds as well today. Interestingly, when at it’s hottest, the flavors were well balanced. Then the black tea peppery flavor became dominant and as it cooled further, the rose became more dominant.
This. Oh, this I like. I picked up a sample when I placed my last Upton order, and I’m glad I did. The dry leaf smells strongly of roses, and there are rose petals mixed in with the tea leaves. I thought the brewed cup would be all rose, but it’s not. The tea is the first thing I taste – smooth, slightly sweet and bready. There is a hint of spice and something woody. The rose is at the end of the sip, and while it’s light it is clearly rose. It’s clean and floral. No soapy taste to be found. This is simply delightful, and a great afternoon tea.
I’m going to have to pick up some of this before January rolls around. I think my search for a good rose tea is over!
