An attractively made fine-leaf tea with rich flavor, smooth, dark cup and medium astringency. While the GOF grade of tea is often used for blending and scenting, this selection is an excellent self drinker. Rich enough to accommodate milk if desired, while smooth enough to be enjoyed plain.

Well, it says fine leaf but they look like fannings to me. I guess some people think they are one-in-the same but I, personally, would classify “Fine Leaf” a bit different, I suppose. Regardless – this is a POWERFUL tasting black tea! It REALLY surprised me! It packs a punch that is for sure! I’m glad I chose it for my first tea of the day!
It’s a bit brash and astringent but I like that its rich and powerful!

I disagree with my Sister on one point regarding this tea … it doesn’t look like fannings to me, but it is a very finely cut CTC. It is a very rich and flavorful tea, nice amount of malt and a wine-y quality to it as well. A nice Assam … it definitely does have a harsh side to it and I think if it was left to steep too long it would have been bitter (I steeped it for 2 minutes and that produced a really flavorful cup with minimal bite)
A good Assam … I’ve tasted better, but, this one certainly would work as a good jump start in the morning when you need one.
