From Ukibe Seicha Haru Ichiban

Harvested in April, this sencha is made with new tea leaves when they are at their most tender. As a result these leaves create a tea with a beautifully clear but deeply green color. Even before you take your first sip you will feel your heart beating with anticipation, The taste is similar to deep steamed sencha, whith a soft, round astringency and a characteristically deep aroma.

This is the last of five teas that was sent in the ITFA Global Tea Tasting Club’s August shipment (or at least, the last for me to taste). I held off on trying this one… because, well, (and this is going to sound silly) the package was so beautiful, I didn’t want to open it. After I opened the package and put the tea into a tin, I carefully peeled the label off of the gorgeous package so that I could save the packaging for a future art piece. It really is beautiful.

And the flavor is just as beautiful as the package! Sweet and vibrant. Lovely crisp flavor that is both invigorating and soothing at the same time. A wonderful tea.

As an aside, I have to say that the teas I received in this first package from the Tea Farm Alliance were all incredible.

I went to look at the packaging and nothing is posted.

The unsteeped tea smells green and sweet. A very nice sniff lol.

As to flavor, it is good. This is very much a sencha that I would suggest to others, but is not a love for me. I like it, it’s grassy and crisp and sweet and just generally pleasing, but I’m too limited on space to keep anything other than an all-out have-to-have at this point. I look forward to giving it away so that someone else can love it.
