From Twinings

Prince of Wales is a pure China black tea sourced from regions including the Yunnan province and other southern regions of China. This blend is light in color and has a smooth and mild taste, with a well-rounded character. Great in the late morning or in the afternoon, it is perfect with or without milk and can be sweetened to taste.

Eh… I’m not a fan of this one. It tastes dusty somehow, and oversteeped no matter how short the steep time. I was trying to stay awake to write, so I thought I’d give this a try (my last cup was bad, as I thought I had oversteeped it.) I don’t know… there’s an unpleasant backdrop to this tea that doesn’t work for me. It is mild, but the bitter taste comes through even with milk and sugar. I don’t think I’ll be finishing my box!

I’ve tried with this. I really have. It tastes like depression in a cup.

A very mild, pleasant tea, not bitter, a bit drying on the tongue and palate (I did not experience this when steeped for only 3 minutes). It is a subtle flavor, perhaps better without milk or cream, which can make it taste bland. I prefer the more flavorful Ceylon Orange Pekoe.

Twinnings are the only teas I drink bagged anymore, and out of them Prince of Wales is by far the best. It’s a nice mellow black tea, with or without milk. A pack of sugar is nice with it, and it has a caffine kick for those long nights of studying, or early in the morning before I go to class. Easy to brew, and delicious!

One of my favorites by Twinings. Sweetened with either white or raw sugar, and a bit of milk. I love how light it tastes.

A tried and true classic, almost gives me a classic “Chinese restaurant” tea taste. Very mellow, with a pleasantly malty aftertaste. Not complex, but a great choice for when you want a simple, unfussy brew. I used the teabags, haven’t tried the looseleaf. One of the verrry few teas I put sugar in (one cube.) A little sweetener really enhances this tea.

Fun Fact: Twinings claims this was created for King Edward VIII, who abdicated his throne for love in 1936 (after being King for ten months). If this were a Mariage Freres tea, the description would read, “A timeless ode to the sacrifice of romantic love, with fine, delicate leaves from verdant mountaintops of exotic Eastern lands. A rare, intimate blend truly fit for a king.” It would also be 14€ instead of 3.

I think you are completely correct about Mariage Freres teas :)

MF does put out some memorable and fantastic teas, but their descriptions are a bit unrealistic sometimes.

Dammann Freres is not much behind. Maybe it’s a French thing?

Haha, I think so. Maybe they just love dramatics.

Really well-rounded and full bodied, robust flavor, fragrant, hearty, strong. Loved it.

Not sure how to describe it but typical Chinese tea flavour, surprised but enjoyable straight, it’s easy to drink, and nice light colour

I don’t taste any smoke like others have tasted. I get a typical smooth malty but slightly brisk black tea flavour. I had this with a touch of vanilla soy milk and that may have drowned out subtle notes.

I’m celebrating ninety days of not drinking beverages other than tea. What better way than to reward myself with a cup of some high quality, custom blended…but what’s this? A stray bag of POW in the cupboard? I can’t recall ever drinking this before (I likely did without taking notice) so I buzz up the kettle.

As the bag steeped, I read some Armenian poetry (in English) and reflected on my life of loss and love. Damn, I’ve forgotten my tea! Although it was brewed a bit too long it was still an enjoyable cup. To my palate it is sweet, like candy. I wouldn’t enjoy it so much without tea biscuits or other food. It’s actually quite smooth (considering I drowned that bag for way too long) and had a slight dusty aftertaste, not to be unexpected with bagged tea.

I liked it and could see buying it to take on camping trips to enjoy with s’mores.
