From Trader Nicks Tea Company

Like an orange pistachio cookie with a subtle smokiness

Tasting Notes: orange | pistachio | smokey

Theres no need to search the galaxy any longer- we have the perfect blend in Bountea Hunter. This unique blend of puerh, black tea and oolong tea perfectly engages the senses without being too fruit forward. The earthy puerh with bits of pistachio mixes with the orange flavored oolong in a fun way. Underneath these flavors is just a hint of smoked Assam; and the large black dragon pearls are scattered throughout and besides being a visual appeal, gives the overall tea a bit more body and flavor.

Ingredients: puerh tea, oolong tea, black dragon pearl tea, smoked Assam black tea, pistachios, orange flavor, peony petals, orange peel

Oof, this one is not for me. The puerh is very strong and does have a bit of a funk to my palate. I can taste some orange and buttery cookie in the background, but those flavors don’t really make sense with the very earthy puerh base. Nope, nope, nope!

Gosh, there does seem to be some consensus in the notes on this that it’s missing the mark with folks. And yet, I totally enjoy a similar cake of gong ting shou from YS that was made with chenpi (aged tangerine peel), without pistachio. Can the teas be so different? [yes] Can the tasters have such different likes? [yes].

I’m not a shou lover in general, but it does vary a lot. I think part of my issue with this one was the buttery flavor was so discordant with the earth puerh.

I think it could make a big different that this Trader Nick’s tea is actually flavored and Chen pi is considered naturally scented and the flavor notes are the character of the tea itself.

One of the Star Wars themed teas I pulled out for May The 4th… aka Star Wars Day!

I always want to like this tea more than I actually do. It’s very thick and full bodied with a strong creamy taste and mouthfeel. Definitely gives off the nutty and richer flavour of a pistachio butter or pistachio cream, but without much sweetness to it. The orange flavour is lacking for me. I barely taste it at all. That’s not really what makes me pause about it though. There’s this oiliness that I just struggle to shake that doesn’t sit quite right with me. I don’t know. It’s not bad but it’s just not as good as I want it to be either.

Regardless, it was fun and fitting feeling to drink it for Star Wars day!

I like this blend, please don’t get me wrong. It’s nice but I don’t get pistachio orange cookie from it. I think the pu-erh base and the Dragon pearls take over, the citrus note is only noticeable in the scent that wafts off the cup but the pistachio note is vaguely there. That being said, it’s a nice cuppa to wind down with. Would I get it again? I’m not sure. Will I finish the bag? Yes, absolutely!
