From Trader Nicks Tea Company

How about a fresh batch of beignets? Keep ‘em coming till you pass out? Well, maybe not that many. Just like Tiana and Lottie, we plan on serving up some delicious man catchin’ beignets’ – but in a tea! After all, as Tiana’s mother always said, the quickest way to a man’s heart is through his stomach.

To perfectly capture the essence of Tiana’s specialty beignets, we started with a base of caramel flavored oolong tea. Just like real beignets, if you add a little sugar more of the flavors will come out!

Tasting Notes: fried dough | caramel | roasted | sweet

Ingredients: oolong tea, hazelnut brittle pieces, black tea, almonds, pearl salt, flavor, sweet coconut shreds, vanilla pieces, licorice root, calendula

Geek Steep S3E6 – Koroko’s Basketball

As y’all likely know by now, I got a Trader Nick’s order a while back. What you don’t know is that the thing that sparked the order was the fact we were doing a Disney episode for Geek Steep – it was the perfect excuse to to finally pull the trigger on placing an order with this company that had caught my attention.

This is the tea that I drank while recording this episode and as you may have noticed this wasn’t the Disney episode – that was the week prior. I actually placed my order well in advance in the hope that my Disney haul would arrive before we recorded and both Marika and I would have lots of teas based on our songs/movies to chose from. To no fault of Trader Nick’s, the order unfortunately arrived just days after we had recorded.

I still wanted to show case the company though, and if nothing else it made for a great start of the episode story. Since this is the blend that I’ve seen discussed the most from the company (it has some pretty die hard fans on IG), it’s the one that I picked out. At this point I’ve tried many teas from Trader Nick’s so I can confidently say that it’s not a personal favourite of mine. However, I do get the love for it. The blend is warm and cozy with a really lightly sweet vanilla note and a bit of a nutty toasty pastry flavour. Smooth, and easy drinking with just enough of a nod to the movie inspiration.

Strange VariaTEA TTB: Tea 27

thereadersteacup on here and on Steepster had the box before me and told me about Trader Nicks and their Disney flavoured teas. When I said I thought that was so fun, she was so sweet and added a bunch for me to try. Same with Brutaliteas. I was so excited when the box arrived but then I was sick and then I pulled out a tea from the box and it had mealmoths in it. I was so grossed out that the box got quarantined to the garage and moth traps got set up. So far it hasn’t seemed like the moths spread beyond that one tea but it’s taking me a while to feel comfortable with the box again.

However, I wanted to try this tea so I thoroughly inspected it, confirmed it was moth free and made it. At first it seemed like it was just heavily nutty flavour but I kept drinking and the flavour balanced out to a nice and sweet baked good flavour profile. I was happy.

Thank you thereadersteacup!

Sipdown! (47 | 263)

This tea has the best name, ha ha… And I’ve been wanting to try Traders Nicks since seeing them on Instagram, I watch a lot of animated movies and their teas are all Disney-themed. This one is from the Princess and the Frog, of course!

Sadly, it’s underwhelming for me. Even using a lot of leaf, it lacks flavor IMO. The oolong base is fine, very smooth with some woody notes. Not a lot going on otherwise, but it’s not bad. The flavoring… I don’t think I would be able to tell you what it’s supposed to be if I didn’t know. Caramel maybe? But it’s sort of generic “desserty” and ends up just tasting like flavoring to me without having a specific flavor. Maybe a touch of butterscotch or buttery something? I was also excited to see salt in the ingredients here, but I don’t taste it at all… Looking at the description, it says they started with a base of caramel oolong, so I guess that makes sense. Definitely not getting nearly enough caramel though.

Anyway, sad panda that this tea isn’t for me. Buuuuut, happy panda that I got to try a sample from Gabby so I didn’t end up buying a bag of it later! Yay tea friends! :P
