From Three Bears Tea

Roast: Light

Source: Fujian province, Wuyi (not the scenic area, but nearby)

Storage: This was purchased by us in 2009 and aged loose/open in Los Angeles, Atlanta and Seattle. It has never been re-roasted.

Tasting notes

This is an excellent opportunity to learn how lighter roast oolongs will age. After 12+ years, the tea has maintained a floral quality but gained a deeper aftertaste, longer finish, and notes of dried fruit.

More about this tea

“Yan Zhong Lan” means “orchid among the cliffs,” an appropriate name given its “yan yun” (cliff taste) and its floral qualities when young and lightly roasted. It’s an uncommon varietal compared more well-known Wuyi oolong varieties like Da Hong Pao/Big Red Robe, Shui Xian, Rou Gui, Bai Ji Guan, Shui Jin Gui.
