From The Tao of Tea

Native Name: Lu Tuocha
Origin: Southern Yunnan, China

Introduction: The Tuocha refers to a family of bowl shaped teas, commonly available as Green tea Tuocha, Black tea Tuocha and Puer (aged) Tuocha. It is made at one of the few organic puer farms in Southwestern Yunnan, China. In making the Green Tuocha, more mature leaves of the tea plant are selected in summer, sun-dried, steamed, and then shaped into small bowls. The process of shaping of the leaves has changed over the years from ‘old-style’ wooden molds or hand pressing, to more mechanized and automated steps. Wrapped with paper, the Tuocha are an ideal size (3 grams) for individual serving.

Flavor Profile: A slightly smoky, brisk, vegetal, sweet green tea from Yunnan.

Ingredients: 100% Organic Puer Tea Leaves
Certified Organic by: Quality Assurance International (QAI)

Batrachoid – thanks for this! I will be doing an infusion test with this this afternoon!!!

Infusion 1- 1 minute
Smells like hay and lemon with a mushroom-like muskiness to it.
Color is a light green tea color you might expect.
Taste…green tea with lemon and hay flavor
Aftertaste is that of raw mushrooms and maybe a little like a mossier green tea.

This is really different. I think I like it tho. It’s alright!
Rating for this infusion specifically: 79-80

“mushroom-like muskiness” has me a bit concerned… but nice description!

Ah, I feel better. I guess tuocha is a good digestive aid for both heavy meals and stress induceded dry heaves.
The 175 worked for this steep. So 170 for the first three with a splash of lemon. Nice to have a tea worked out on the second try.
Summary:
While the rose is a sit down, super attentive session of bliss, this is definately more of a through the day everyday tea. I suppose this kind of morning is exactly what it is for. Gah. Exactly the kind of morning for which it is made. I need to administer tea until my grammar returns.

A splash of lemon? In Pu-er? Crazy!

Geoffrey Norman

Whoah! I didn’t know that Tao had a sheng tuocha. I might have to pick it up on my next jaunt there.

Batrachoid

@CMT Really? I never put lemon in pu-erh before but this was the first time I tried to correct an error mid cup. It worked but with the right temp it’s probably perfect.

Received this one from Batrachoid. I’m really trying to like green Pu-Erh. Honestly I am but I’m thinking it is not for me. The tuocha smells like hay and brews up a goldish liquor. The taste well I would have to agree with Teaequalsbliss mushroom like muskiness. I just find it to be too bitter for me. Very similar to Darjeeling that I have sampled. Still I am appreciative of the chance to try it(sigh).

you absolutely must try this tea if you are looking for a good Sheng Pu’er (or green as you have said)…100% worth the money, in fact I consider it a steal at that price…

I kind of had that scratchy feeling in my throat that usually means the beginnings of a cold. Let’s hope it’s not! I haven’t been sick in over a year, and want to keep that record! Anyway, just as an extra precautionary measure I opted to drink green and white teas this morning instead of my usual black—hoping the extra antioxidants will help me out.

Mmm, I just love this green toucha. The apricot flavor is really yummy, and it is one of the few green teas I’ve tried in which the subsequent steepings are stronger and just as flavorful as the first. A good “Breakfast Green”.

One thing I’m confused about: this is classified on Steepster as a pu-erh, but then I went back and read the company’s description it seems as though this is really just regular green tea shaped into a bowl form. I know there are green pu-erh teas, and green toucha, and then green puerh touchas—which is this? Maybe I’m just incredibly dense and don’t get the differences between all of those. The description simply says this was made in the same place where the pu-erhs are made, but it doesn’t actually say this IS a pu-erh, so…just wondering.

I think it’s just green, tuocha refers to the compressed shape that it comes in

Charissa

Thanks! That’s what I suspected.
