From The Republic of Tea

SuperFruits are the best nature has to offer – celebrated for their juicy, delectable flavors as well as their nutritional properties. We have married real, organic fruit with fine China green tea, giving you a well-balanced cup and a multitude of benefits in the convenience of a round, natural tea bag.

Cultivated since ancient times, ripe pomegranates have symbolized fertility because of their numerous seeds. The juicy seeds, or arils, are tart-sweet and have a reputation for healthful benefits thanks to their antioxidant content. Fresh and crisp China green tea blended with organic hibiscus creates an ideal base for this uniquely refreshing ruby-hued cup. Also wonderful over ice.

At first taste this tea is definitely more pomegranate than green tea. However, with consecutive cups, it definitely is more balanced (i don’t know if that’s just the tongue assimilating to the citrus of the blend). I also had this with a cilantro chicken salad and it was an awesome pairing. The tea goes down very smooth and has a slight tinge of cherry (like that weird zing… stop me if i sound crazy).

I had this tea iced and enjoyed it very much unsweetened, but i feel that the addition of the sugar would help bring out the sweetness of the pomegranate and override the cherry-esque-ness.

Sipdown! (105 | 202)

This is a pleasant enough tea, but it mostly just tastes like Chinese sencha with a bit of hibiscus to me. I don’t really taste pomegranate specifically. The green base has a mellow, dry grassy flavor that I find a bit comforting, and the hibiscus is present but not overwhelming, just adding a generic fruity tartness.

Fine, but generic in both the base and the flavor.

RoT’s 12 Days of Sipping, day 6.5. Quickly prepared the second cup, this time with oat creamer and stevia. It’s still pink, but not as pretty with the creamer. The creamer and the sweetener do a great job of cutting the tartness, of course, and the result is somewhat reminiscent of Fruity Pebbles.

I’m still not sure about oat creamer: no matter how little I use, I taste it too much. That said, it worked well here.

Still not for me.

You easily taste more pomegranate than you do green tea however I don’t think that’s necessarily a bad thing. Green tea does tend to be bitter anyway, so this tea is nice in that you can get the caffeine and cleansing benefits of a bit of green tea, but mostly taste a fruit instead. This is a good midday tea to give a small bump in energy levels while working on a project or some other kind of work. Personally I can usually get two steeps out of one tea bag before moving onto a new one. I highly enjoy this tea and would probably restock my cabinet with it if I were to run out.

I’ve got a loose leaf version of this tea, but didn’t find an entry specific to it on here. Not a bad tea. The tea itself has a bit of a musty flavor and it’s only good for one steep, but has a pleasant sweetness and acidity from the pomegranate.

I love this as an iced tea, but not so much as a hot tea. It does get bitter if steeped too long.

Best part is the hibiscus and the pomegranate. The green tea goes well with it, but the green tea quality is better in some of their other bagged teas.

I steep it for about 3 minutes and it was fine. I’ve steeped it over 5 before and it turned out to be really bitter. But I think you need at least 2 minutes to get the pomegranate to release its flavor. This is a tea I often see at World Market. They seem to have a unique selection of tea there.

Flavorful, with a kind of…woodiness about it. That could just be me, but it’s not bad. The pomegranate is definitely tastable, the green tea…a little bit.

This month’s tea sample is supposed to be served iced but I wanted to end the evening with hot tea. For some reason, pomegranate doesn’t taste like much to me – it’s a pleasing taste but it’s hard to figure out exactly what the taste is.
