From The Republic of Tea

Açai (ah-sigh-ee) berry is one of the most nutritious fruits in the world. For centuries, inhabitants of the amazon rainforest have gathered these berries from the azaicero palm tree for their powerful health benefits. This deep purple fruit has the rich flavors of concord grape and ripe blueberries.

Ingredients: Fine China green tea, hibiscus, natural flavors and açai berry bits.

Steeping is easy:
1. Fill the kettle with 6oz of fresh, filtered water per cup and heat to just short of boiling.
2. Place one tea bag in your cup, pour in the water and infuse for one to three minutes. Remove the tea bag. Experiment to find your favored steeping time.

For iced tea, double the amount of tea used and steep as above. Remove the tea bags, let cool and serve over ice.

This is a very strong-flavored tea. The hibiscus overpowers the green tea, and I never tasted the acai berry flavor. But, it is a fun pink color, and if you’re in the mood for hibiscus, it’s great!

The Great Canadian Teabox arrive at my doorstep so now I’m spoiled for choice when it comes to new teas to try. My strainer was in the dishwasher so I picked this one for convenience as it’s in bagged form.

As soon as I added the water the tea turned a tell-tale red – I suppose it was too much to hope that there wouldn’t be hibiscus in a relatively cheap blend like this. I will say that the hibiscus wasn’t overpowering and I could can taste a little bit of acai berry flavour underneath. But I’m so sick of companies using hibiscus as a cheap and easy facsimile for any tart-flavoured fruit in their teas. Big thumbs down.

Great Canadian TTB and sipdown!! (203)

Thank you Jeweled Thumb for including this in the box however there is something I am not loving in this cup. It starts of fruity but quickly turns hibiscusy (is there even hibiscus in this?) and ends on an almost sour note. It is just not for me but definitely fun to try.

I don’t think I’ve ever had this straight. I usually mix it with something else for iced tea.

Hot or Cold I find this tea to be very tasty! I love açaí fruit and its flavor and this tea does a pretty good mix of açaí and green tea.

Probably the least pretentious açai tea I’ve found, and consequently, one of the best. The flavor isn’t overpowering (but still citrusy enough to let you know it’s there) and the flavorings make a nice, calming aroma.

Be careful though – it is a green tea, so it can get bitter in a hurry. Make sure the conditions (and timing) are optimal, and you’ll end up with a kickass cup.

This tea has a nice strong acai flavor without being overpowering.

I love this one. It brews up a pretty purple color. The acai is flavorful and fruity, but different.
