From Teavivre

Origin: Fuding City, Fujian Province, China

Ingredients: Tea leaves curled into small pearl shape

Taste: has fruity flavor of peach, tastes sweet, with slight jasmine fragrance showing up after the peach flavor disappeared.

Brew: 1 teaspoon for 8oz of water. Brew at 176 ºF (80 ºC) for 1 to 2 minutes (exact time depends on your taste – a longer time will give the tea a stronger taste and color)

Peach Jasmine Dragon Pearl Green Tea has a similar appearance with Superfine Jasmine Downy Dragon Pearls Green Tea and Premium Jasmine Dragon Pearls Green Tea. The making skills of them are also similar. After the tea makers rolled the tea leaves into small pearl shape, they will mix the natural extractives from peach into the tea pearls. This fruity Dragon Pearl will make you feel like have actually eaten a peach.

Another one from Teavivre! thank you so much! I really wanted to try this one. Peach AND jasmine! It sounded like the best combination for a hot day.

Steep #1 // 20 min after boiling // 2 min
I used one teaspoon as Teavivre suggests. I’m not sure if I was supposed to rinse, but I didn’t. I wanted as much lovely flavor as possible. The dry leaves don’t have a particularly strong fragrance (I’d say some of the dry leaves of their fresh green teas have MUCH more of a scent to them.) But what I can smell from this tea, it does have a hint of sweet ripe peach and a hint of jasmine. The flavor itself has about the same flavor strength as the scent – a little peach and a little jasmine. There is a butteriness from the green tea. The flavor gets stronger as it cools. This might also be another good one iced.

Steep #2 // 20 min after boiling // 3 min
This cup has a lot more flavor! This type of green tea has a satisfying brothy soup like flavor that I love. Seems like more sweet peach than jasmine. This time there is more astringency as it cools, so one teaspoon is definitely enough to use. I haven’t seen too many peach/jasmine combinations and this one is very nice.

Stephanie

I like to mix this one with some straight jasmine pearls to boost the jasmineness.

Good idea!

I was curious what a peach-scented jasmine-scented tea might smell and taste like, though I admit that I was not entirely optimistic. Sometimes I find that doubling up on flavors leads to a less appealing result. In the case of the Teavivre Peach Jasmine Dragon Pearls, my worries were for naught, as the end result was perfect potable and even rather pleasant.

The dried pearls are quite strongly scented, which also had me worried a bit. The scent is peach, peach, peach, with not much jasmine breaking through the fruity aura. I was surprised that the pearls were of various sizes, as the straight-up jasmine pearls from Teavivre were of uniform size. I weighed out about 3 grams, since I could not really estimate the weight by sight alone. I infused them in about 10 ounces of water at 76C for about 3 minutes.

The liquor was pale peachy, and the flavor was more peach than jasmine, but I could taste some of the jasmine in the brew. The peach still dominated but not nearly as much as it did in the dried form.

All in all, I like this tea, but I do believe that I prefer the straight jasmine pearls and will be restocking with those not these. That’s probably just a reflection of the fact that I happen to prefer jasmine to peach. I am sure that peach amateurs will love this tea, and it’s definitely good for a change of pace.

The second infusion was nearly as flavorful as the first, so this is a good example where it’s definitely worth reinfusing the leaves. They were so tightly rolled that they did not finish fully unfurling until the second round. The resultant liquor was more green than orange, and I could taste the green tea more than I did before.

This tea smells so peachy keen, I was expecting to be hit with a blast of flavor. But it’s actually a very subtle tea. I couldn’t taste much till I added a bit of raw sugar, and then the peach came alive. Still subtle, but in a delightful way. The jasmine is even more in the background, but it rounds out the peach flavor nicely.

As to appearance, these pearls are huge! Even bigger than Teavivre’s plain jasmine pearls. The size actually makes them a bit tricky to measure. Do people just count them out? I used 10, which filled a teaspoon more or less. It seemed in the ballpark of correct, but maybe 1 or 2 more pearls would have been nice.

A teaspoon of pearls sounds about right…the first time I made this I used a whole sample package which was too much. Flavor is subtle though.

Thanks, I’m never quite sure! Steepster doesn’t actually list a recommended amount on those little packets, though I noticed someone suggested a tsp. in the steepster listing.

Tamarindel

Sorry, I meant Teavivre doesn’t like an amount on their packets. I’m such a ditzo-head today.

caile

Lol ;-)
Also, I think some people add a couple of the plain jasmine pearls to bring out more jasmine flavor, although I haven’t done this myself. If you have the plain ones you could give it a try.

Tamarindel

Cool, I’ll try that! I do have some on hand :)

I love it when tea companies capture a fruit flavour so well making it seem it just naturally was part of the tea. That is so with the peach flavour in this tea. It really does taste like peaches and even though it’s the prominent flavour, it doesn’t seem to overpower anything. The jasmine notes were very subtle and hard to pick up. I see someone here solved that problem by combining straight jasmine pearls with these one. I’ll have to try that on my other sample. The green tea pearls were on the astringent side with a slight bitter edge near the bottom of the cup.

This was my requested sample back when I ordered my 100g of Jasmin Silver Needle, and I’m just now breaking into it. I though it might be a nice cold brewed treat but I also thought it’d be pretty nice hot too so I decided to make a small hot cup and then depending on how I liked it either finish the sample off hot or cold brew the last of it.

So, my verdict is that I think this is very weak and mildly flavoured in general. I hardly get any sort of indicator there’s green tea in this and I certainly don’t get any peach. Mostly, to me, this tastes like hot, jasmine flavoured water? And, I guess it sorta is, but… No thanks?

So I’m gonna cold brew the last of the pearls and see if the prolonged soaking will draw out more flavour. And on the plus side, at least this wasn’t perfumey or chemical tasting or anything like that!

my suggestion for this one is a bit longer of a steep at a low temp. I found is most peach-y when it was not hot but not yet cold.

I received a sample of this from Angel and the folks at TeaVivre. Thank you!

This is a light tea with hints of peach and just the slightest notion of jasmine. I was very surprised at how much I enjoyed this cup. This was very nice and refreshing. I am excited to drink this both warm and cold this summer. Another tea that I think will be great for the upcoming warm days!

EDIT: This cooled quite a bit while I got distracted doing chores. This is amazing cold. The flavors for me came out a bit more. I will be making the rest of this sample iced for sure. I have so much tea, but I have been visiting the Teavivre site daily contemplating an order:) I am sure it won’t be long before I cave.

It feels a little wrong to brew this with an electric kettle, but I don’t have a gaiwan (yet).

I’m really liked the scent of these Teavivre greens. This one smells mildly of jasmine, and slightly sweet. There a little bit of peach in the flavour, it’s mostly jasmine. For some reason jasmine makes me crave steamed rice dishes.

Thanks to Teavivre for sending me this sample. :)

Uh, could somebody explain what dragons have to do with pearl teas?

Stephanie

Good question!

TeaVivre

Thanks for your concern. About the name of this tea, it should not be separate dragons and pearl, they should be dragons pearl. In China, it’s called dragon pearl that something with ball shape. So we named our teas with dragons pearl that have ball shape. Hope this is useful for your concern. :)

Today was one of those days where I wanted tea, but I just couldn’t figure out what – I was overwhelmed by all of the variety!

I settled on this because I still have quite a few sample packages of this left. However, it doesn’t taste quite as peachy today. There’s a bit of a metallic taste in the background. I’ll finish off the rest of the pot, but I might try a black tea afterwards and some genmaicha in the evening.

I was pleasantly surprised by this tea. I’ve always been very wary around fruity flavors, as fruity flavors tend to become extremely sour to me. However, this tea provides a peach flavor without any of the sourness. The only issue is I don’t really taste/smell any jasmine in here. It’s still a delightful tea.

Oh this is so good iced.

1/2 packet in ~10 oz water for 2 minutes, then over ice in a 16 oz mug.

Really gentle and refreshing. I can definitely taste the peach (yum!) while the jasmine and green tea take the back seat.

I’m not sure I’d get it again, due to the fact that I don’t often drink green teas. It is one to keep in mind the next time I place an order, though. If I need a couple dollars more, then this would be a good sample to add.

The leaves haven’t fully unfurled, so I’m going to ice a second steep (3 min) as well. Yum!
