From Teavana

“This flavorful tea is grown in rich, volcanic soil and plucked during the earliest spring harvest. Where most Korean teas are fired and steamed, these leaves are semi-oxidized to produce a complex oolong flavor profile.”

Has the toasted quality in taste and scent that Koreans adore. Label says oolong but it is unique. It is roasty, toasty, and as the steeps progress also somehow reminiscent of gooeun gim (seaweed), but in a good way. Hard to describe. Oh 아주 구수~함.

This tea is quite different than many of the other oolongs I’ve tried. The leaves carry a toasted, grainy aroma, and the brew comes to a nice golden amber. The flavour is very smooth, almost a bit flat (although that could’ve come from me not using enough leaf), but certainly not unpleasant. It has a distinctly toasty, almost nutty taste to it with a smooth, lingering finish that is somewhat sweet. It’s unique in that it doesn’t really taste like what I expect from and oolong, but it doesn’t taste overly dark or like a black tea either. Very cozy and warming!
