From Teavana

This fragrant and rare hand-rolled tippy black tea from the Yunnan province unfurls to release a smooth-bodied taste with sweet, chocolaty, and malty undertones. Good for multiple infusions. This is a perfect morning and afternoon tea.

How to Prepare

Use 1 teaspoon of tea per 8 ounces of water. Heat water to just before boiling (195 degrees) and steep for 3-4 minutes. 2oz of tea equals 25-30 teaspoons.

Ingredients:

Hand-rolled, pure black tea.

picked up this tea at a Teavana store while at a conference in Pheonix! I was so excited to go to a teavana store (all of my stuff had been online sans store in my area). These were great to travel with toss a couple in a baggie in your purse or bag. No mess, no spillage. Great flavor and a good morning pick me up! Would buy again. I didn’t think they got too bitter and I have one of those mugs from Teas etc. that you add the loose leave and drink from the strainer at the top. Causes some over steeping but I don’t mind a somewhat strong brew!

Went crazy today…bought some organic honey at the Des Moines Farmer’s Market this weekend and added it to my steep for the first time every. I like the juxtaposition of the strong, semi-bitter black with the intense sugar of the honey

I like this tea, But it tast verry strong to me. Maybe I just like my black teas Weak, but other than that it had a verry crisp taste. Yummy. On a Funnier note, My dad was trying to make tea right after I got this and Poured 1/2 of my bag into the teapot, and drank it. He said It tasted good, and had a coffee like boldness to it..but he had the shakes for the rest of the day…

I enjoy the Golden Monkey, and after reading the reviews here, i decided to give this tea a chance. Not only is it cheaper, but i agree with the other reviewers that it is the superior leaf. Though i’d say they are very similar, this tea has a little more robust body and a much more pleasant finish.

I accidentally over-brewed the second infusion (this tea must be capable of many infusions), so i decided to add a little milk and sugar and (as i believe was mentioned) they took really well.

Currently, this stands as my preferred Chinese Black (though i am still waiting for my first Yunnan in the mail).

Brewed this one a bit strong the first time, but it was still tasty. Next time, I tried blending it with Haute Chocolate Rooibos, and that was a very delicious and chocolatey combination. Then I brewed it alone again, using less tea than the first time, and it was still a bit strong, but still delicious. Next time I’ll try even less tea. :P

This is a very flavorful black tea, malty and a little chocolatey. I really like it and would definitely recommend it!

My favourite of the Teavana black teas. Maybe it’s my British heritage but I much prefer the strength and bold flavour of this tea compared to the apparently superior Golden Monkey blend, which I find far too malty for my tastes. This is rich and brusque with a soft aftertaste and the merest hint of smoke. Love it! Great on its own and handles milk well, too.
