From TeaSource

This is a great everyday Assam, very hearty and malty, but with a nice clean taste. This tea is our first choice for using as a base tea for Chai.

Not a bad example of an Assam, but not very complex either. Malty and astringent and a tiny bit smoky. It’s got a good kick to it that might stand up to milk, if I was a person that likes tea lattes. I’d rather drink it plain or add some spice to it like ginger. While I’ve enjoyed sipping down this bag, its not worth seeking out again, I’ve had other Assams I’ve enjoyed more.

Mastress Alita’s sipdown challenge – August Tea # 6 -A cheap tea

sigh.  It is very hard to plan teas for a trip.  I’m literally calculating how many teaspoons I will need for the trip, caffeine and non.  But then the problem is choices from my vast collection of teas.  Good problems, I guess.
For this prompt, CHEAP to me means a CTC black tea, even if maybe I have no idea what the price on this tea is (it was from a teabox).  But it’s a solid black tea option.  I like it’s considered a breakfast tea.  This hot weather had me drained today, falling asleep while reading a book, so I needed a strong black tea.  Not a sipdown yet, but almost.

Hmm, I’m going on vacation soon and I haven’t even thought about what teas to take…

Tea packing hint: clothes are optional ;)

I bring tea that I ‘think I’m going to drink’ and then reach for my old comfortable stand bys. Don’t ration your tea! life is too short.

From the Here’s Hoping TTB. This is my first real disappointment from the TTB. This is a CTC tea, but I’d at least hoped for a good strong breakfast tea. However, it was weak and bland. I suspect this may have just be too old; either too long in the box, or maybe an older tea that was added. Second steep of 7 minutes: nothing there.

Definitely not too long in the box, I would have taken it out! I didn’t see this one last round.

I bought this for making Chai, but decided to try drinking it straight yesterday. It’s a CTC tea, so I was expecting a strong, bitter flavor. I was pleasantly surprised! The flavor is definitely robust and malty, but only slightly bitter. With a splash of milk, it made for a lovely breakfast tea! Still need to try it with their Chai mix, though.
