It’s been a while since I last had this tea. Still, the scent drew me in this evening.

Steeped, I’m getting more allspice, cinnamon and hibiscus. Still, I really like it.

Really really.

If you like weird spicy blends, and don’t mind hibiscus, give this tea a try. I don’t know how to describe it, but I seriously want my house to smell like this. Crisp fall, winter spices, fruit punch.

(2.5 tsp, 14 oz, 185F, 3 min.)

Hibiscus + spice will be forever strange for me. The former is too weird hot while the latter is too weird cold (hmm, save for some iced chais). :)

This one is just too neat. Once I do a tealux order I’ll send you 1tsp to sniff.. No need to drink it!

Interesting – Tea Guys has a blend with the exact same name and list of ingredients. Coincidence? Doubtful, considering that there are crazy things in here like dogwood fruit (though interestingly enough… no sassafras root is listed in the ingredients… sigh…)

Anyhow. Felt like a random new tea this morning that wouldn’t be a sipdown (in case I couldn’t taste it), but would be something interesting. So here we have it. The aroma is rather root beery… and that’s about all I can detect. Same aroma once brewed.

However, the flavour? Is WEEEEIIIRRRDDD. Root beer plus a punch of fruity hibiscus? Whaaat? Bleh, this is not sitting well with me. I like root beer, and the amount of hibby in here is tolerable, but together? This is NOT a combination I would recommend. I’m not entirely certain that I’ll finish my cup of this… Perhaps I’ll leave it until I get home after my meeting (maybe I’ll be able to breathe/taste/smell properly by then?!) and see if it still tastes kind of icky.

I’m pretty sure using actual sassafras root is illegal – at least in the US.

gmathis

There was a long conversation about that a while back … I think the sassafrass concoctions that are commercially sold have a particular chemical/element of the plant removed.

Kittenna

Well, sassafras root isn’t actually listed as an ingredient, just in the tea description. So who knows! This tea was icky anyways, haha.

great Canadian travelling tea box

This one smelled too much like rootbeer not to try it. Verdict? This is a pretty decent cup of rootbeer tasting tea. What i’m not really getting, and maybe it’s the sample i pulled out, is the strawberry. Overall not a bad tasting tea but i’m knocking a bit off the rating for not having much in the way of strawberry.

Dexter

I love how we all experience teas differently. I thought this had lots of strawberry. :))

Strange, unusual, bizarre, I don’t have the vocabulary to really describe this.
Definitely strawberry and then the strange. Some notes suggest root beer, but it’s more than that. Some people think root beer tastes like toothpaste, there is a little of whatever that is way in the back.
The funny thing is, I don’t really mind this. I think it’s really unusual and it grows on you.

Another sample sipdown of one of those teas you have to be in the mood for. I like sassafras, but maybe not as a tea. ;) Just weird.

Strange that there’s no sassafras root in this tea and I can’t taste any strawberry but I find it delicious. Love that root beer flavour. It sounds like a weird flavour for tea but it works. I like it as an afternoon tea.
