Thank you to Mel for sending me a bit of this tea to try.

The aroma has a nice berry essence to it, although I must agree with Mel in that it doesn’t translate into the flavor quite as well as the fragrance would suggest.

It’s still quite good though. A pleasant enough black tea base with a bit of currant flavor lingering throughout the sip and finishing off with a hint of tartness. Not very much astringency. Nice cup.

I am noticing that the currant flavor develops as I continue to sip on this… I don’t know if the increase of flavor is due to the fact that it has cooled a little bit (not much yet), or if it is because the flavor is developing on my palate. But the tea NOW tastes better than at the start of the cup.

I got this as my sample when I bought some teas last time. I’ve been wanting to try their black currant tea, since black currant flavoring in black tea is a favorite of mine.

This blend didn’t have the juiciness I was looking for. There was barely any black currant flavor to it. I think I like Assam with black currant, and this tasted like Ceylon more, too.

When I want a flavoured tea (which is rare) I always go for this one. I love black currant tea, but it’s hard to find it without added artificial flavour. I understand what people are saying when they say the currant flavour is underwhelming, but frankly I enjoy that over the chemical taste of most other black currant teas I’ve tried. This is in no way a fruity tea. For my tastes it is a perfect balance of good-quality black tea and and aromatic flavour.
