Winner of the World’s Best Red Tea award in 2006, Honey red tea is considered one of the newer variations of tea developed in Taiwan. This particular tea has strong honey and floral aromas which is unique among red/black tea.
This tea is 100% organic as tea farmers encouraged tea insects to feed on the raw leaves of the tea. The interaction between these special bugs and the leaves results in the lovely aromas and taste of the tea.
Aroma:
I could smell honey, flowers as well as tropical fruits in the tea. The aromas of the honey and flowers were so strong that I felt like I was in standing in the middle of flowering bushes with busy bees buzzing around me collecting nectar.
Taste:
Sweet, floral, very well rounded with aromas of honey in the background. It reminded me of white tip Oolong but with a more red tea texture and taste to it.
After taste:
It left my very sweet after taste in my mouth. Upon my second sip of the tea, the honey flavour became more pronounced. The floral and honey flavours stuck around a bit before disappearing into the sweet background of the tea.
Recommendations:
I would definitely recommend this as an afternoon tea. Perfect for people who likes white tip Oolong ,English tea lovers and people who like tea with strong floral aromas. Adventurous tea lovers can try adding a bit of milk to give the tea a more English twist!
