Arby Advent Day 1
I received my homemade tea advent calendar from Arby last night and was very excited to begin! It’s a little strange that this tea calls itself chai since it’s not spicy at all. I just taste a general herbiness with some cardamom. I was making dinner and ended up steeping it a bit too long, so it turned out somewhat murky, but drinkable. Yeah, this tastes more like a health blend than a chai. Other than being misnamed, it’s fine for what it is, though I’m no fan of health tea blends.

This sipdown is a long time coming. I’ve been giving away tasters of it in tea boxes and to friends and I’ve been drinking it when I remember. It is a tasty herbal, but to be honest I’m tired of it now.

Nettle is naturally slightly sweet (liked the smell of fried autum leaves), and never bitter or acidic. It makes a good base. The main problem with this tea is that the chai spices are lmited. I can taste some cinnamon and maybe clove but I think it really needs more of every spice. I like my chais to have a good level of peppercorn, clove, cardamom, and cinnamon with some spicy ginger. This tea is pretty mild.

1186 tasting notes

I am finishing off this awesome tea at work today. I will definitely, 100% be ordering more of this, and probably in March. My nose is going crazy today, and I even had an allergy pill yesterday..I also finally asked if the HVAC system can be checked at my work as I have been so sick with my asthma at work that something must be wrong. I suspect mold, as I also have a mold allergy, and haven’t had asthma symptoms prior to last summer in about 15 years. Hopefully they find something and can fix it! In the meantime, I will continue taking allergy pills about every 2nd day and drinking teas such as this, caffeine free and good for allergies. And it tastes awesome! Until we meet again, my friend. See previous notes on this one :) upping rating a bit too.

Awe no, I hope they’ll be able to fix the problem so you won’t have to suffer so much. And thank you for verifying that you have a mold allergy. When I went to the doctor last year because my allergies were really bad from living in a moldy basement, he basically just scoffed at me and said that mold allergies don’t exist. And a former landlord in the basement suite before that also scoffed at me and said that you can’t be allergic to mold. What the hell is wrong with people?

I actually only found out I had a mold allergy from my allergy test a few years ago, I can’t remember what strain it is, or if it is specified, but it definitely said one on there. Yeah allergies/asthma is a tricky thing..not many people understand them unless they have to cope with it themselves lol. My mold allergies are the worst in the spring from the snow mold blarg. I hope they at least look into it and if all is good, then I can figure out what else could be the trigger.

What kind of allergy test did you get? By that I mean, from a physician or a more homeopathic one? Because there are different methods. I should do the same but I’m not sure what’s out there.

The latest one I had was at an allergy clinic, I was referred there by my doctor, they did the skin dot test, I believe the method was oils placed on the skin and then after about 10 mins the hive size was measured. I can’t remember if they pricked the place that they put the oil too, but it definitely seemed accurate (peanut allergy of 7/10, with 10 being most deadly, and I do have quite a severe peanut allergy). I can’t remember the reading on my mold one either, I believe it was between 2 and 5 but not sure on the number. It was tough to actually get a test though, it sounds like the older you get the less common it is to get a test done…kind of annoying, since I wanted to know if I had outgrown my peanut allergy when I went haha.

When I was little I had the one where they scratch your back with the allergens, that one apparently was freaky lol. My mom also has had the injection type one and it also seemed accurate, but I couldn’t handle that many needles lol. Hopefully you can get a referral if you want to get a test done!
