From Tea Urchin

Taiwan’s ShiDing county is famous for Baozhong and the 2015 Spring harvest was especially good. This “ying xiang” baozhong 石碇迎香包種 is a fantastic specimen of Taiwan’s new tea cultivar #20, grown at an elevation of 800m. Enjoy the sweet buttery “nai xiang” aroma with a hint of cut grass and flowers. The aroma carries through to the flavor, with a slight umami note playing counterpoint to sweet grass and dry wheat. This tea is pleasantly thick and creamy, with a tongue & throat coating huigan. On later infusions, a honeysuckle note becomes more pronounced. An impressive performer for just $20. We recommend you compare it against our 2015 Spring Wenshan wild rougui baozhong.

This has to be among the top 10 most unique oolong I have been able to drink thus far. At first I thought it was stored wrong because it smelled like chai in a way. I ended up brewing it and was just… wow, this stuff is complex and confusing.

Strong notes of cinnamon come through with this odd taste of butternut squash. Almost like cinnamon butter and sweet potato fries. While it sounds like a fun blend, this is a straight tea. Really messes with my head as I drink it and to think it’s about $10 an ounce is a great price for such a unique oolong that has aging ability that would be much different than other oolongs
