Some of you were still having pretend tea parties with your Furbies when I first reviewed Tea Forte’s English Breakfast, but at the time, I was very complimentary of it. Trying it again after a 10-year-break, I still have nice things to say about it. A good and beefy Assam with some brown sugar and raisin notes. Simple and sufficient.

The hotel I stayed at on my trip served this one as my complimentary breakfast beverage when I requested hot tea. Honestly the packaging thrilled me more than the tea itself. The little pyramid shaped bag was in a tiny single serving box the same shape as the bag. The shape was nice because it sits flat on the bottom of the tea cup, and the little bendy tag with the leaf on the end was really adorable! Not bad for free hotel tea I guess shrug I added sugar and a squeeze of lemon.

Yeah you can never expect too much out of free hotel tea. :)

Thank you to TeaEqualsBliss for sending me this tea!

I have tried this one before, please read my review of it here:

Steeps up strong and has a pleasant enough flavor. Not the best English Breakfast that I’ve tried, but not the worst either.

Altho this wasn’t a bad tasting tea…it did take me a little longer to get thru the cup! It’s fairly bold but quite peppery tasting. Not my favorite but not my least favorite either.

Braving this tea again today and I have to say I’m thankful I won’t have to drink it again. Tried steeping this for 1 minute this time instead of 3. While that did help with making the tea less strong, it still isn’t good to me. It is way more astringent than I care for in a tea and makes my mouth pucker. I also noticed an odd metallic bitter taste this time. Yesterday it was just flat out mega bitter, but with the shorter steep time the bitterness becomes metallic. Not something I enjoy.

I’ve noticed that Tea Fort’s teas, for all their expensive prices and pretty packaging, can be rather hit and miss.

Yeah, so this truly is very Assamallamadingdong-ish. I was really enjoying it at first, but then it seemed to become too aggressive for me. A line was crossed and I kinda felt “blerg” about it. Also remember: I pretty much drink my tea straight up, so perhaps additives would help this a great deal.

I do have several more single servings of this, so I may try to tweak it a bit steeping-wise. And I do plan on finishing the single servings, but I think that it’ll take me awhile. M

This was… boring! and a bit earthy? made me wonder if there was any bergamot in it…
So, I think I may have found another black tea that I dislike. There is no character, no sass… or identifying features whatsoever, unless you consider plain-ness a feature!
even with milk it was barely drinkable, but I did finish the cup. Oh well. Fingers crossed for the black currant and orange pekoe! the only other teas in the pack that I look forward to tasting.

Drank this morning. Got three decent infusions from one pyramid infuser.
Added milk each time for the perfect morning tea. Even though this blend is made entirely of Assam tea leaves, I did not feel that this tea was as robust as PG Tips. But, I did enjoy it very much this morning and would consider purchasing if and when I ever place a TeaForte order. I really should put TeaForte on my Christmas wish list along with a red Cafe cup….

So I’ve never actually drank an English Breakfast before. Hmm. Well, I suppose I did when I was in London a few years ago and had tea every morning in the hotel dining room. That was certainly breakfast tea, and it was certainly an English breakfast, but was it officially an English breakfast tea on the label? I mean, if you’re in England wouldn’t they just call it breakfast tea anyway?

But I got this teabag in a giftbox of assorted flavors, so I’m trying it out. It’s nice. Kinda generic. Assam is the generic black upon which most flavored teas are built upon, right? I’m so ignorant about the various black tea…

I do tend to like flavored teas above regular black teas, so this tastes very uninteresting and plain to me. If I had honey or sugar I’d mix it in, but I’m at work and I’ve got nothing.

Meh. That’s all I’ve got to say.
