Sipdown #39

I had two sample teabags, so I made them two different ways. The first was 175 degrees for 4 minutes. This produced a cup with very little in the way of mango or peach. If I had to say one of them was in there, I’d pick mango. But mostly, it was really lacking in flavor. This tea may be called Green Mango Peach, but I think it would be more appropriate to name it Green Ginger Mint, as these were the only flavors I could easily identify.

With the second teabag, I tried boiling water for 3 minutes. This produced a much more flavorful cup. I got more mango and peach flavors, while the mint and ginger were still apparent. However, the boiling water turned the tea bitter and astringent. So, I can’t recommend this brewing technique.

Overall, I can’t say I’m impressed with this tea. I tried it two ways and both were underwhelming to me. Oh well. Can’t say I didn’t try!

This is quite interesting…when it was hot/warm I couldn’t pick up on the peppermint much but now that it’s cool I can. The green tea is a grassier green tea and it’s fairly strong. The Mango and Peach about about equal and tasty! This is a pretty good cuppa either hot or cold.

This was part of the single-steep package I bought along with my Kati (which I still love). Um…I’m gonna hold off rating this one right now until I can control the conditions a bit more. It really smelled and tasted medicinal and kinda icky. I got hints of its potential, but I wanna hold off total judgment until I bring some home to try with good water and an accurate kettle. But until then, M.

I received a single steep loose leaf package of this tea with my Kati cup (which very quickly become my favorite tea cup… I use it all the time).

This has a very “menthol” kind of aroma and taste to it, although I don’t think I am finding it as off-putting as some of the others who have rated this tea. It’s a little different and a little medicinal, but, I don’t dislike it.

The ginger is soft but adds a nice dimension. The peach and mango flavors are strong, with a prominent herbal-y flavor. The nutty flavor of the honeybush is not very distinguishable but I do taste the sweetness from it.

It’s not necessarily my favorite tea from Tea Forte, but I didn’t hate this either… it was decent.

Caveat: this tasting note refers to the filterbag.

I usually don’t add adulterants to green tea. In fact, I never do! But I’m always willing to try a new blend, so here I am drinking Tea Forte Green Mango Peach, a box of which I threw into my shopping cart amidst other items during my first and only visit to this company’s website.

I am pleasantly surprised. The liquor is colored pure gold with a hazy shimmer. The taste is quite complex, and looking at the ingredients list, that makes sense:

green tea, peppermint leaves, honeybush, peach flavor, ginger root, and mango flavor

Apparently these are all natural and mostly organic ingredients, so that’s already reassuring. I was nearly sure that I was tasting and smelling coconut in this blend, but it is nowhere listed, so it must be an illusion caused by the mingling of the mango and the honeybush? Not sure.

What matters, in the end, is that this smells and tastes pretty good. Smooth with no bitterness, somewhat fruity, not very minty, quite likeable, and probably perfect for people who are not hard-core au naturel green tea drinkers.

I thought this was just a fruit-scented green tea but my guess was completely wrong. It’s a honeybush and green tea blend!! Plus there’s peppermint and ginger root!! What can I say… it’s just very, very weird, especially when I expected none of these (who would have thought about that!?). Being a mint lover, I found the mint acceptable… but certainly I wanted stronger mango and peach flavours. I tasted something slightly bitter and tart in my cup and wasn’t sure what it was. Could it be due to the strange combination of honeybush, green tea and ginger? God knows why Tea Forte threw in so many random (at least in my opinion) ingredients into this tea… I didn’t even want to finish my cup.

Another one from a sampler package I received from Christmas, going to be a few of these this week. It is a decent flavored green tea, more flavoring than green tea base, smell and taste-wise at least. The mango and peach I would say are equal in both the smell and taste categories and it’s not bad, quite tasty, but not one I would have every day, I feel it’s easy to get tired of this one, better only once in a while. I used the little pyramid tea bag twice and there was definitely more peach the second steep, yum. For whatever reason I did not get any sort of notes of mint, granted I wasn’t looking for it, I had already finished my cups by the time I went to write this. Still, I saw mint was one of the ingredients and I must say I did not come across it.

What is it about some flavored green teas that just get this medicinal taste to them? I certainly have some flavored greens that I love, but they definitely seem tricky to get right.

I got four single steep packets of this tea with my Kati cup. I haven’t brewed it up in a while, but I don’t remember it tasting quite as strange before. Even just opening the packet I was hit by a strong aroma that didn’t really appeal to me, and the taste seems to match it pretty well. I don’t really get mango at all, but I think I’m getting peach; I don’t really taste much of the green tea. Over every thing is a slightly medicinal flavor, like its mentholated. I feel like this one would be good if I was sick! I think the medicinal flavor might actually be part of the peach. Overall it’s not too bad, but it’s not something I’ll be craving.

My office manager gave me a few bags of this, and I’m finally trying it. The flavor in this is a bit weird. The mango and peach are faint, with the strongest flavor actually being peppermint.

I don’t hate it but I wouldn’t have bought this for myself, and won’t in the future.
