I actually made this earlier in the day when I was talking to VariaTEA about Fruit Loops tea/David’s Bamboozled. I made a cup and then stuck it into the freezer to enjoy later as an tea slushie. I think it was Sil whom I got that idea from…

Anyway, lets just say I forgot it was in there until I went into the freezer to grab some FroYo. At first I thought it had frozen solid, but after poking it a whole lot with a spoon I cracked the thick, top layer of ice open only to realize a thick layer had frozen solid all around the edge of the cup but the inside was still liquid – albeit very, very fucking cold liquid.

Not really so much of a success as my first tea slushie because I sorta just made a crappy Popsicle, sans the stick, but it was cold and refreshing anyway. Now that I’ve drank all the liquid, I just have a thick “Buddha Bamboo” flavoured shell of ice in the cup which I’m waiting for to melt…

EDIT: I pulled out a few more I thought would be interesting to try as slush. I’ll experiment with a couple tomorrow…

Yvonne

Now I’m craving some sort of slushie! Wish there was an easy way to go about making one.

Sil

hahahaha “crappy popsicle, sans stick”

another thing you could try that someone else..uh i think it was the teafairy does, is make the tea into ice cubes and then use a blender to make it a slushie once the ice cubes are frozen

Roswell Strange

This might sound sad, but I don’t actually own an icecube tray… When we were buying kitchen things before moving in we missed a few things, including an ice cube tray, oven mitts, Tupperware containers, strainer, wooden spoons for cooking, and a can opener. We’ve bought all those now, minus the ice cube tray.

You guys are so hardcore when it comes to different ways to enjoy your tea! :D

So I messed up when prepping the bamboozled to cold brew and forgot to take some water out of the bottle. I was only able to fit 3 tsps instead of the 4 that was needed to make it the right amount of leaf. Also, that only leaves me with 1 tsp which is 1/2 of what they say to use for a cup so now I am stressed that my bamboo tea experience won’t be awesome. Basically I am saying all this because it seems we both messed up out bamboo teas today :P

Roswell Strange

Make a really small hot cup? Like – really small…

VariaTEA

I made it in a normal sized cup because I am dumb. It turned out weak but what flavor I could taste was pretty good.

A strange, delicate, and lovely tea this one.

Who knows what bamboo is supposed to taste like? Here, each sip is a mellow variation of straw, strawberry tart, and sweet fruit tastes with a heavier silkier mouth feel than you would expect from such mild flavours. I am quite enjoying this pleasant evening tea. Gentle on my spirit after a trying day. Like a gentle camomile hug without the camomile.

I look forward to shaking the bag up a bit more and steeping a bit longer to see what flavours develop.

And as for the question of what bamboo is supposed to taste like, I guess I will find out soon because one of my Black Friday sale teas is a bamboo-based one from Zen Teas.

Seeing that I am a freak, I’d take my experience with a grain of salt, but bamboo tastes like cellar to me. I think it’s safe to say that it’s not supposed to taste like that.

The scent is a bit funky, old sneaker-like, but the taste is quite lovely. I think. I’ll be able to say more about bamboo when my other bamboo tea gets here.

Used up the rest of my sample to make a cold brew. Really, really disappointed with it. Not sure if it was underleafed or not (it didn’t seem like it, there was a good tablespoon and a half for a barely-1L teapot), but there was almost no flavour, even after two days of leaving it to brew in the fridge. Reducing my rating because of this.

GCTTB

Had this one last night and really enjoyed it. I could taste lemongrass. I don’t know about the bamboo or even what bamboo tastes like. It doesn’t have any artificial flavouring added either which makes it a plus for me. It’s hard to find herbal teas without some flavouring added.

I think that Bamboozled from Davids is the only other bamboo tea that I’ve had. This one seems similar IIRC.
To me it’s mostly lemon grass with a hint of sweetness pineapple. Lemongrass isn’t my favorite and this is just ok for me. I would like this better if the other fruits came through more. Back into the box it goes.

Yep, this is creamy and fruity! Last of a lovely sample from Roswell Strange, cold brewed.

It is so much tastier this way! Very light and refreshing, but the flavour is kind of unidentifiable fruity. :) I’m not sure I’d get more, but I’m really enjoying it right now.

Thank you!

(Also, my daily sipdown WOO.)

This one sounds like a nice one. I liked the few bamboo ones I have had so far, so this one seems like one I would enjoy. Maybe I’ll look at getting few bamboo teas in spring or summer.

OMGsrsly

If you like bamboo, I’d definitely recommend this one. I don’t really care for bamboo, so while I’ll enjoy what I have, it’s not something I’d search out.

Roswell Strange

Tea Desire offers another Bamboo tea as well called Pure Life; I enjoy that one a lot too; it’s got citrus as well as gingko and lemongrass in it, and I swear coconut even though it’s not a listed flavour. It’s pretty good though! Maybe better suited to you if citrus is your thing?

OMGsrsly

I’ll have to check it out. It’s mostly I think that the bamboo isn’t really my thing. I did enjoy the fruitiness of this one. And the refreshing factor.

Plunkybug

I liked Davids Bamboozled, and I think you had sent me another bamboo tea, which I seem to recall liking.

A sample from VariaTEA. I’m more or less out of my tea hiatus now, as my cold is beginning to depart. I know I’m not 100% back to normal in terms of taste, but I’m probably as well as I’m going to be for a fair few days. I can’t go without tea for much longer!

So anyway. I’ve never had a bamboo tea before, so I wasn’t all that sure what to expect. I followed the recommended parameters and added 2 tsp of leaf to boiling water for around 8 minutes. The resulting liquor is medium yellow, and smells fruity and a little vegetal.

To taste, I get an initial fruitiness. I can more or less pin it down to red berry, although there’s a light tropical element lurking around in the background. There was a cube of pineapple in the dry mix, so I guess it’s that! The fruitiness fades gently into a relatively think-tasting sweetness, almost like sugar-water, which I assume is the bamboo. The sip ends on a light herbal note.

I have to say that I’m really enjoying this one. I like the use of bamboo as a base – it really seems to let the fruit flavours shine through, while providing a pleasantly substantial backdrop. Often, my complaint with berry teas is that the berry is too hidden by other flavours. Here, it’s just perfect! Definitely one I’d try again if the chance arose.

Another Tea Sparrow subscription box tea

I also had this one as an iced tea. I’ve never had a bamboo tea before, and I quite like this. It’s quite fruity. I also really like the lemongrass in this.

mj

I like bamboo too…at least in the one bamboo tisane I’ve had (bamboozled by David’s Tea)

Cheri

I wasn’t sure how I would feel about it, but I like it. This is definitely a fun tisane.

I wasn’t a lover of DAVIDs Bamboozled but this, I really like this. The bamboo provides body and a solid base for a nice fruity flavor of berries and currant. I could definitely enjoy this often. I think I see a Tea Desire order in my future. Thank you Roswell Strange for sharing it with me :)
