From Taiwan Tea Crafts

Back in November, when we were investigating the New Hong Yun TRES No. 21 and the Wild Sancha teas of Yuchi Township, we had the opportunity to taste a wonderful Lot of Superior Quality Assam tea that we simply couldn’t leave behind us. Here it is! How does it differ from our Lot 147 will you ask? To make things simple, it is like Lot 147 but simply one good notch better and more expressive on all counts. More aromatic, with jammy sweetness and thickness in body. A wonderful alluring fruity aroma enthralls the taster and invites you to bring the cup to you lips. Wow, this one is tangy! It immediately captures the attention of all your taste buds with a sharp attack that plateau’s nicely and is very enduring. The tannins are present but not aggressive. All this good structure serves its purpose very well, by supporting the fruitiness and sweetness of the taste and aromas. We’ve found through our multiple cuppings that it is a tea that modulates quite a bit depending on how you make it. If we recommended our Lot 147 for English style black tea drinkers, I think this one has to be the ultimate choice for a dash of milk.

Drinking this one today in the spirit of drinking more of my favorite teas instead of hoarding them until they are stale. I tried a longer and stronger brew of this, and it worked out pretty well. Here are things I didn’t notice the first time I drank this: There is definitely what I can only describe as an umami smell (my dumb palate keeps equating it with tomato paste) and a minty sensation in my mouth after I swallow. These two things made me double-check that I hadn’t accidentally brewed the Red Jade Black lot #268. I am really actually thrown off by how different this one tastes to me today…As this cools the sweet cotton candy notes I remember are becoming more prominent again.

Still loving the drinking-the-favourites project.

The dry leaves’ fragrance of sweet tobacco, brews into a liquid that makes me think of raisins and pink cotton candy fused together. No joke! There is some medium astringency that lingers after the sip, however I find this to enhance the complete experience. You certainly can associate it as an Assam from the Sun Moon Lake region. The taste is unmistakeable, yet this one is unique in its sweetness. Very easy not drink cup matter cup. Thankfully the very large leaves are of quality and last many different steepings.

It’s Day 8 of little terri’s Ultimate Sipdown Extravaganza!!
I made it through 42 sipdowns in the first week, which I’m feeling pretty good about, since most of them are multiple steep teas.
I’d like to thank Charlotte Zero for sharing a generous sample of this tea, which is similar to lots #147 & 154 (I think those were the other lot #s I tried).
My tastebuds aren’t quite with it, most likely due to allergies, but it’s a very fruity & enjoyable cup!
358 to go!

terri sent this one my way (she received it from charlotte zero) and i’m glad she did. I haven’t had this lot before. :) This of course reinforces my opinion that 25g samples of all the different lots can for sure be sustainable from TTC once i finish up my current larger sizes. It’s actually a better route to go for me, unless i’m sharing a larger size with someone. Not because i don’t love the teas, but because i want to be able to try all the lots in case one really blows my mind. There’s no fear of picking up something i won’t like either because thus far all the TTC teas that i’ve tried that are in the black range have been enjoyable for me :) thanks for sharing terri!
