From T2

Traditionally drunk to promote health and friendship, Mate (mah-tay) is the national drink of Paraguay, Uruguay, Argentina, Chile and Brazil. Made from Ilex Paraguariensis leaves native to South American rainforests, the infusion is reminiscent of tea, with a slightly smoky, herbaceous flavour. A stimulating, highly effective way to clear a cloudy mind or for a midday buzz.

I am not a yerba mate expert so I can’t speak to whether this tastes authentic. I’m always on the lookout for coffee substitutes so I thought I’d give this sample a try (with trepidation, some Internet reviews have described yerba mate as tasting like cigarettes!) I was pleasantly surprised, to me it tasted like green tea accompanied by the smell of freshly cut grass. There was a hint of honey to the taste as well. Looking forward to buying a box and adding it to my caffeine arsenal!
