From sTEAp Shoppe

2012 Second Flush Jungpana Oolong from Darjeeling demonstrates several flavor profiles creating a smooth unique tea. The first steep will bring forward a sweet vegetal aroma with forward notes of candied pecans and butter croissant as well as a subtle smooth vegetal note on your palate. The second steep will no longer have the vegetal undertones and be simply a sweet, nutty and buttery smooth flavor. Bringing thoughts of Sticky buns and cinnamon rolls.

Produced under abnormal weather conditions as it needs the appropriate mist/fog and the right amount of sun to achieve the desired flavor profiles unique to this tea. This tea is new and unique to the Himalayas.

This one started out with vegetal notes like that of asparagus to me with a pleasant astringency on the first steep the second steep was much less astringent, slightly vegetal with nutty notes of pecans and the third steep was just wonderful smooth with no astringency and nutty notes of buttered pecans. This is one of those samples that I drink up and then think Damn! I wish I had more. This one is listed a Darjeeling Oolong and like I said I don’t know anything about Darjeeling teas but this one tastes like it really wanted to be a Black tea. This one is on my wishlist, I’m going to have to get more of this one because I really want to spend some more time with this very tasty tea. This is the second Darjeeling I’ve had from steapshoppe the first one was really good too, I think I like Darjeeling teas :)

Steeped up some of this tea to see if it was better with a lower temperature, using my new variable temperature kettle (man, that was the best purchase ever!), and it wasn’t. Still super floral. The second steep was more nutty and a little buttery, but it’s just so overpoweringly floral. I didn’t make it to a third steep, but it might have been even better. Only thing is, I don’t want to have to wait until the third steep to get the best cup of tea!

Thank you Tealizzy for the sample! This is a very tasty oolong. I’m not really getting any of the pastry type flavors as described on the package, but its pretty good nonetheless! It is very smooth and floral and not at all astringent. Buttery and vegetal, too. Glad to have tried it, but not rushing to buy more or anything :)
