From Stash Tea

This lively tea offers wide-awake flavor without caffeine. It has a smooth lemon flavor with a piquant, lingering bite of ginger.

Ingredients: Ginger root, lemongrass, lemon flavor, hibiscus, citric acid, safflower, ginger flavor

To savor the full flavor of our teas, bring fresh water to a rolling boil. Pour hot water directly over the tea bag in a pre-heated pot or cup. Brew 3-5 minutes or to desired taste. One bag makes 8 ounces hot tea. For iced tea, brew double strength.

A Berry Frui-tea July! Decided to have a bagged tea revisted tonight, and a fairly standard one at that… Stash’s Lemon Ginger. I’m six days in on a prolonged migraine attack, and mint and ginger have always been things that are fairly soothing for my migraine nausea. I actually have a special nausea blend that is a mix of both of those things that I’ll sip on when the nausea is at its worst, but this even a lazy ginger herbal sounded fine. I still have some of this, and though it’s old, it appears it isn’t past date yet.

I have had some very nice lemon ginger loose leafs in the past, so I’m imagining based on that this revisit is probably going to be a little more lackluster than I’m remembering… I do recall I used to like this quite a bit in the past. I really dislike the orange variety of this tea by Stash, Sunny Orange Ginger, which I revisited pretty recently and still have pretty recent memories of, so I’m even more hesistant that this will hold up now… but we’ll see. Of course I had to remove it from the paper bag, because paper teabags taste nasty to me.

If I’m honest, this… really doesn’t hold up, because it does remind me of Sunny Orange Ginger. It definitely isn’t as bad as that tea to me, but the same things that bothered me about that Stash flavor are bothering me about this tea now that I’m trying it again. The lemon just tastes too artificial, and the ginger tastes way too strong, to the point it leaves this lingering heat on the back of my tongue after every sip. Between the two I’d take a cup of this any day, because the lemon is definitely a more pleasant sort of artificial lemon taste than that weird orangey taste was in the Sunny Orange Ginger, but… eh. When I can make a cup of my Tulsi Lemon Ginger loose leaf, it’s just hard to imagine finishing all the teabags of this off…

Whenever I attend a community meditation at this one particular centre in the evening, they always serve this. A pleasant enough herbal, but not one that I would seek out if I had other options.

Bright, sharp lemon flavor with the ginger right behind it, this gets the job done without the strong pepper taste found in other lemon gingers. An occasional tisane for me, to cleanse palate between other choices.

Yummy, really enjoy this one. Flavors blend well together and reminds me a dessert. Definitely has a great scent and flavors really well. Have not tried a second steeping on one of the bags yet but I am guessing it will work well with this tea.

Edit: I realized I had the wrong tea company. This was a Stash tea, not Twinings!

Decided to have this tea when my throat started hurting at work yesterday. I was actually pleasantly surprised at the great flavour balance. There was enough ginger in there to feel the spicy kick, but not too much so that it overwhelms the whole tea. The lemon was a tasty counterbalance, and there was even a hint of sweetness to round the tea off nicely. I was initially just drinking it to help my throat, but ended up enjoying it quite a lot. I let it steep for about 5 minutes so that the flavour would get nice and strong, and it was exactly the strength I wanted it to be. I would not be averse to having this tea again!

Stash is pretty good stuff.

Mookit

Yeah, I was pretty impressed by this one. I might have to give a few more a try.

Have you tried the new 1893 Ginger Cola by Pepsi? So much ginger! It was pretty good.

This tea is good for when you are sick, but it is a bit acidic so avoid it when you have a raw throat. I usually add a bit of sweetener when make it hot or cold. Avoid letting it steep more than four minutes because the sour gets overpowering and the ginger is spicy.

This was my go-to during my pregnancy when queasiness threatened to get the better of me. It is great tummy-soother with a balanced blend of lemon and ginger (the ginger offers just the right amount of heat). I often add a little honey for an evening treat.

Tea 2/6 from the fruit tea sampler I got off of amazon. I bought these teas with the intention of making pitchers of iced tea, however this tea sounded like it might be better hot, so I made it two ways: iced and hot.

For the hot tea I boiled a mug of water and steeped the bag in it for one min. The taste of the tea is very mild ginger with a stronger presence of what tastes to be lemon juice. After reading the ingredients I was surprised to learn there was hibiscus in this tea. I suppose that’s what’s giving the tea a sour-lemon juice taste: the hibiscus is pairing up with the lemon ingredients. Either way, I didn’t care for this hot sour drink; it kind of tasted like neo-citron with a mild touch of ginger.

For the cold tea I steeped a tea bag in a glass of water in the fridge for 2 hours. I must say, I do like this version better. For better or for worse, the ginger is even more mild in the cold tea form, and the sourness is toned down as well. It still tastes like someone put a touch of lemon juice in, but it’s not tasting like neo-citron.

Overall, this tea is alright, but I dunno if I would repurchase. Generally when I buy lemon-ginger teas I prefer no sour notes (so either the lemon comes from lemongrass or lemon myrtle- no hibiscus) and in my opinion the ginger should be stronger. I will use this up by making iced teas, but usually I prefer my lemon teas hot. This tea is alright cold, but I have had better iced teas too. So for me, this tea juts doesn’t fit well under iced teas or hot herbal teas- I’ve had better teas in each category. This is still better than acai berry from Stash, but so far the two teas I’ve had from Stash have been kind of “meh”.

This smells mostly of ginger with just a hint of lemon. I can taste the lemongrass in the aftertaste. I’m not sure I love it. The ginger is bitter and more than a little overwhelming. It’s definitely got a bite to it. I’m sure it would be great if you were feeling under the weather, but it’s not for me otherwise.

I didn’t like this much either. like Stash’s Meyer Lemon tea a lot better. Celestial Seasonings has my favorite Lemon Ginger tea, but Twining’s has a pretty decent one, too.

Kristal

Oh darn :( what about a shorter steeping time?

Shae

rosebudmelissa, I’ve tried the Twinings one but it wasn’t a favorite either. I’m wondering now if these two flavors together just don’t do it for me. I will have to look for the Celestial Seasonings and see if that might be something I like better. Thanks for the tip!

Kristal, I think that may have been part of the problem. As usual, I got distracted at work and let it steep a little too long. I think it was right at 8 minutes. Next time I try it, I’ll definitely be paying closer attention.
