From Simpson & Vail

Originally native to the Mediterranean, almonds are now domestically cultivated in many places around the globe. References to almonds can be found in the Old Testament, and, even after all these years, almonds still hold an important part in people’s diet. The almond aroma in this tea resembles the heady smell of almond extract.

When brewed the amaretto aroma and taste is reminiscent of marzipan. This aromatic rooibos “tea” blend has a rich, sweet taste and an aromatic fragrance that will delight your senses! It brews to a deep amber cup with a toasty delicious taste. The nutty, woodsy flavor of the Rooibos comes through and balances well with the almond flavoring.

Ingredients: Rooibos, almond pieces and almond flavoring.

I’ll start by mentioning that S&V no longer sells this, so don’t run over to their site to find it. I managed to buy it when it was being discontinued, so I made sure to order. I’m glad I took the gamble, as I REALLY like this one. Strong marzipan on a great rooibos base. The marzipan isn’t cloying. And the occasional almond slice in the blend also lends another level of almond to the flavor (I’m assuming.) It’s a cozy blend though! A great dessert tea. I wonder why it was discontinued, as I think this is a keeper. Two solid steeps. I know there was a similar blend like this… maybe from Zen Tea back in the day.

I finished my decaf almond black from S&V, and my almond withdrawals led me to open this one. The primary flavor is quite a pleasant rooibos. There’s a bit of almond as well if you’re paying attention, but not enough that I’d notice if I hadn’t seen the name. It does show up in the scent though. There’s plenty of red rooibos out there that is just okay, but when you find a good one, it really hits the spot. If this were plain rooibos, I’d say it’s one of the best ones I’ve had. I should probably knock it down a few points for not being almondy enough, but it’s really tasty, so I think I’ll excuse it! I’m a huge fan.
