From Simpson & Vail

Vanilla planifolia, is indigenous to Mexico, where it is pollinated by tiny humming birds and a bee called Melipona. Vanilla is actually in the orchid family and is the only orchid to produce an edible fruit. Hand pollination has allowed the vanilla plant to be grown in other places in the world such as Madagascar and Tahiti.

We’re so lucky to be able to have vanilla so readily available to us! This bean produces a heady aroma and flavor that infuses your taste buds with exotic wonder. This decaf black tea blend has a vanilla flavor similar to vanilla extract. The deep amber cup is delectable, and is perfect as is, or with just a touch of sweetener. Try blending a little in with other teas to create marvelous new taste sensations.

Ingredients: Decaf black tea and vanilla flavor.

Oh, somehow I forgot to leave a review for this one. I think in general I don’t love the tea that S&V uses for their decaf black blends. I do find this to be perfectly pleasant with or without milk, but the black base could definitely be stronger. I usually add a teaspoon of vanilla to black teas to make them more exciting, and I may do that next time, but I’m enjoying the subtle vanilla flavor this one has. If I were going to order another decaf black tea from them, I would definitely go for the decaf earl grey instead. I miss it!

Vanilla extract?

AJRimmer

Yeah the cheap fake kind.

Interesting… never thought of doing that!

Kittenna

I’d considered that, but never done it…. I’m now feeling quite compelled to do so, knowing that someone has test driven it already!

AJRimmer

I’ve only done it with black teas, but it’s nice! (Also I use giant mugs, so maybe others wouldn’t want to put in a whole teaspoon).

This tea is not bad as far as decaf goes. The vanilla taste is a little artificial tasting but is not bad. As I have insomnia it is a good choice for me at this hour. I may try this cold brewed and iced eventually.

I steeped this one time in a 16oz Teavana Glass Perfect Tea Maker/Gravity Steeper with 3 tsp leaf and boiling water for 3 minutes.
