From Simpson & Vail

Do you love cupcakes? We offer 3 delicious cupcake blends: Red Velvet Cupcake, Carrot Cake Cupcake and Strawberry Cupcake.

When you sip this delectable brew the strawberry taste first hits your tastebuds followed by the rich, creamy, chocolate “cake” taste. Some of our staff like this blend with agave or sugar, but I find it’s delicious (and less caloric) as is! The aroma is as enticing as the taste – sweet, baked strawberry cupcakes. Yum! The cup leaves a lingering creamy taste of fresh fruit that makes it hard to resist another and another and another sip!

Ingredients: Indian black tea, strawberry pieces, strawberry leaf and strawberry cupcake flavoring.

I made my first cup and then didn’t have time to drink it until it had cooled considerably, which worked for me since I prefer my teas that way, anyway. This is incredible. Sweet, fruity, cake-y goodness. I don’t really like cake, because the texture kind of turns me off, but this is delicious.

I wish I could order more, but shipping to Canada from Simpson & Vail is a flat rate of $30, and that is impossible for me to justify. Sorry, Strawberry Cupcake. I wish I could drink more of you.

Thanks, Mitch, for this delightful sample!

$30??? Yikes!

yyz

Simpson and Vail can be ordered through Amazon.com and the shipping is cheaper for Canadians this way still not necessarily super cheap. I created a mock order of 2 items and shipping was $12.95, but still cheaper than $30

jessiwrites

Oh, that is much more reasonable. $30 is pretty ridiculous. Thanks for the info!

Sil

jessi – if we end up placing an order through my tea mule, i’ll see if there’s a way we can figure something out to get stuff over to you.

jessiwrites

Oh, Sil! I would just love you forever. :D

Thank you Marcel Duchamp for the sample! Sure enough, this has a very natural strong strawberry flavor. Also this is the most pastry or baked goods type flavor I’ve gotten from a flavored tea. Very nice!

I’m glad you like it :-)

Tea #9 from Another TTB
This one brings back memories of my childhood. Every birthday my stepmom would bake me a strawberry cake with strawberry frosting and chocolate sprinkles for my birthday. That is all I would eat and nothing else would do ha ha.
The strawberry flavor is this tea is so natural and fresh tasting. There is a great creaminess to this one as well. The chocolate pairs perfect here! Mmmmm! You do get little hints of bakery “esque” flavors. That cake flavor you could say. I added a little sugar and cream and wow-y! There you go! Strawberry chocolate cake in a cup! I love the memories this tea brings back. I could really use a stroll down the narrow road of good memories. I’ve been dealing with stupid bank customer service who took a huge chunk of money from my account and it is not getting resolved. I am broke and will probably not be doing any Christmas shopping. I hate banks so much! I am going to just hoard my money in a box under my bed for the rest of my life. Ha ha.
Anyways, this tea was a great ending to my night. It makes me want to go bake a strawberry cake now! What fascinates me so much about this one is the strawberry flavor. I swear it tastes just like fresh strawberries :) I may have to keep this to stroll down memory lane every now and again (the low calorie version) ha ha

Second dessert tea I have tasted from Simpson Vail. To cut to the chase, this tea tastes just like the apple cinnamon coffeecake I had. The only flavor I really taste with both, is a coffee cake kind of flavor. I tried to taste the strawberry on two different tastings, to no avail. I liked the coffee cake taste. These teas are actually turning my taste buds onto coffee, which is something new and unexpecting. I will never drink coffee the way I do tea, but until now I couldn’t appreciate coffee at all. Having my taste buds develop likes of new and different flavors has been fun.

Tea #9 from Another TTB

Not bad for a dessert tea. A bright natural strawberry flavor with a pastry character. A fun tea, but not one that I would drink often.

I feel a little guilty writing this review because I just learned that Simpson & Vail has discontinued this tea. It’s a shame because it is genuinely one of the best strawberry flavored teas I’ve ever had. I think it beautifully captures the flavor of a strawberry cupcake with a natural, fruity, strawberry flavor. The first time I tasted it it threw me because for some reason I thought it was supposed to have a chocolate taste to it as well but it’s not. It simply tastes like a fresh baked strawberry cupcake.

I usually make it in my Grosche Aberdeen gravity feed steeper by adding 1 Tbls of tea to 16 oz of water (I prefer strong tea). I bring the water to about 205° and let it steep 3 to 4 minutes. Then I add a touch of sweetener and some half & half and I settle into enjoy my sweet but not caloric treat.

oh no! I didn’t realize they discontinued this. I really liked it too…

Sipdown! (112 | 209)

I think this one just didn’t age very well, in this last cup I don’t really taste any strawberry at all. It mostly just tastes like chocolate flavoring, which we all know isn’t my jam. This tea was almost two years old, which I wouldn’t personally consider super old, but different companies and even different flavors tend to have varying staying power, so I guess this one needed to be consumed sooner.

Leaving my rating alone, as I remember liking this before. It’s probably not one I would reorder though, just because chocolate teas aren’t my thing and I don’t think I would reach for it.

This tea smells strongly of sweet strawberries. It needs to be overleafed, but the strawberry flavor is quite authentic and tasty. With milk, it’s like strawberries and cream. It’s a dessert tea that isn’t too heavy and indulgent.

Trick or Treat! Strawberry Cupcakes for breakfaaaaaaaaaaast! Hey, we’ve all been there. I had a sample of this from the Here’s Hoping Teabox, so thank you to tea-sipper for organizing and all teabox participants!

2.5g in 350ml, steeped for 3 min. The tea is a chocolately brown, which is fitting, since it smells very chocolately; I guess these must be chocolate cupcakes with strawberry frosting? My coworker makes some with chunks of strawberries inside too, which are so good… There is a hint of a sweet strawberry smell in the aroma too, and it is sort of a sugary-sweet, candied sort of smell, rather than a juicy or fruity sort of smell.

The flavor of the tea reminds me of a lot of other choco-strawberry teas I’ve had in the past, though thinking back, I believe all of those had a pu-erh base, so they were a bit darker and richer than this, with those deeper earthy notes beneath the sweetness. The chocolate note is really good here, it’s coming off a lot stronger than many chocolatey teas I’ve had, and something about the subtle briskness of the black base is making it taste very much like a rich bittersweet dark chocolate. Yum! The strawberry is very much that sort of light, artificial, sweet candied strawberry flavor, which always makes me think of strawberry frosting or marshmallows, and it comes out toward the end of the sip. There is a touch of briskness/bite to the black base that is used, but all the natural sweetness of the chocolate notes balances it out a good deal, and the astrigency left after the sip is relatively mild. Overall, a solid choco-strawberry dessert blend, that especially delivers in rich chocolate notes.
