From Simple Loose Leaf

In an effort to create a tea that embodies the comforting and complex nature of love, we blended warm Roasted Yerba Mate with organic, raw Cocoa pieces, proving once again that opposites do attract. Lavender and Rose Petals intermingle, complimenting the smooth Mate base with romantic floral notes. Don’t be surprised if you fall in love with Infusion No. 9.

Roasted Yerba Mate, Organic Cocao Nibs, Organic South American Yerba Mate, Rose Buds and Petals, Lavender Flowers

Measure the desired amount of tea leaves and place into a teapot or teacup. Use 1 tsp or 2.3 g of tea leaves for every 8 oz. (1 cup) of water.
Bring the water to a rolling boil at 212 degrees F (100 degrees C).
Add enough hot water to submerse the tea leaves and let it sit for a few seconds before pouring out the water. Warming the tea leaves and teaware allow for a better brew.
Add boiling water and let the tea leaves steep for 3 to 5 minutes.

Although there were some aspects of Infusion No. 9 that I enjoyed and plan to seek out in other blends, I didn’t fall in love with it. The roasted Yerba Maté had a dark, almost bitter note that reminded me of a good quality coffee and I thought it paired very well with the subtle sweetness from the cacao nibs. I believe I would have loved this tea if were only a Yerba Maté and cacao nib blend. Unfortunately the flavor from the lavender ended up being somewhat unpredictable, despite having shaken my bag of tea in order to evenly distribute the contents. In some cups it provided little flavor at all, leaving me with the deep flavors of Yerba Maté and chocolate that I found enjoyable. Other cups had a strong soap-like flavor that was rather unappealing. As the tea cooled these soap-like notes only grew stronger, obscuring the subtle flavors of the rose. Despite my earlier concerns about the strength of the rose flavor, this blend doesn’t contain a rose flavoring agent like African Rose Herbal did and instead relies on dried rose buds and petals to produce a much more subtle and natural flavor that is well suited to the Yerba Maté base.

OMGsrsly

I know others with the same opinion of mate. :)

Ost

I really was not expecting that. xD

OMGsrsly

Have you tried green mate, or just roasted?

Ost

I have no idea. I tried a mate from Teavana once, but that was a while ago, and I just know I didn’t like it. xD

OMGsrsly

Haha. Ok! Maybe don’t try the green. It’s even stronger.

Ost

Really? Seems like roasted would be stronger!

OMGsrsly

The green tastes more like grass-and-dirt to me. :)

Ost

Ohh interesting. xD
