Sipdown! (51 | 249)

Last sample from Savoy. They accidentally left this one out of my order, so it was sent along later alongside a couple of free samples.

I’m not a lapsang lover, but this sounded interesting. It’s meant to be whiskey-inspired. Actually though, I feel like I’m tasting banana somehow…? Banana and a touch of caramel, and then of course the savory smokiness and earthiness of the lapsang. Perhaps a hint of cinnamon in the finish.

It’s nice enough, not quite what I expected, but I do enjoy banana teas. Not one I would reorder, but enjoyed sipping through the sample.

I may have to try a sample size next time I’m at the Savoy storefront. The first time I whiffed it, I passed, but lapsang, at least in smaller doses, is starting to grow on me.

Cameron B.

I’m not the type of person to drink a straight lapsang, I don’t hate it but it’s not something I reach for. But I didn’t find the smoke to be too strong on this one, so maybe it qualifies for “smaller doses”. :P

Yum, this is a smooth and smoky version of whisky, the peated kind without any alcohol. I might need more of this in my cupboard, and Kentucky Bourbon pales in comparison here. I wish I had more than just a sample so I could see if it could get bitter with too much leaf or overbrewing. I would add it to my next Savoy order!

Flavors: Caramel, Smoke, Smooth, Whiskey

Two for two!

Well, this jumpes into wishlist and I am thinking gifting it to my brother who likes whisky.

Confession: I did not buy any of this, as I’m not much of a lapsang souchong fan, but the smokey, leathery, fruity, pipe-tobacco scent relocated me temporarily to Holmes’ Baker Street or the offices of Cyrus Barker. (Barker & Llewellyn series by Will Thomas. You need to read them. But I digress.) Just thought I’d pass this along to all you smoke lovers.

Savoy has recently started selling in tins—for those of us who are close enough for live store visits, the young lady who took care of us said they’re offering 10% off when you bring the tin back for a refill.

The trip to Savoy was part of a (semi-milestone) anniversary date…I’m giving away my geezerness here, but part of my present from hubby was the Sears and J.C. Penney mail order catalogs from Fall 1985. I’l be up all night compiling my order :)

Congrats! :)

From one geezer to another, that’s an awesome gift! Talk about a trip down memory lane! :)

That is a really cool gift! I may need to check out Savoy. This sounds great. And the books will definitely be on the library order.

“Some Danger Involved” is the first in the series.
