From Rosali Tea

Genmaicha is one of Japan’s most well-known green teas. It means “brown rice tea” and was originally created as a peasant’s tea – brown rice was mixed with then expensive green tea to make tea more accessible to the common man.

This Genmaicha is made with premium green tea and 100% Japanese-grown sweet mochi rice. It has a rich, nutty-sweet profile and grassy, savory and roasted flavors. Genmaicha pairs well with a large variety of main dishes as well as dessert and breakfast bread.

This is another of the teas from the box I won from Rosali Tea.

I think this is my favorite Genmaicha I’ve tried. Mostly because I basically can’t taste the green tea, and only taste the toasted rice. I like the taste of toasted rice, but haven’t found a green tea that adds anything to it in my opinion. I will happily drink the rest of this sample but I don’t think I’ll be buying more. I would definitely buy just straight toasted rice or a black Genmaicha if anyone sells them, though.

I love this tea! I’ve always been partial to Genmaicha, so I was an easy convert to this one. The rice is nice and flavorful and toasty and it was great on the second and third resteep. Highly recommend it!

Is it heavy on the matcha?

Madam Oolong

Hey Kristina, it’s not too heavy on anything. I was happy with the balance and it was matcha-y enough to really get a good green tea fix…sorry if that’s vague!
