From Palais des Thés

A delicious organic blend of rooibos, honeybush, and moringa with the sweet flavors of African mango.

South African DETOX is delicious blend combining the detox and draining benefits of 3 typical plants from this region — rooibos, honeybush, and moringa — with the sweet flavors of African mango. It can be enjoyed both hot and iced.

This blend is made up of:

rooibos: a shrub that only grows in South Africa and gives a caffeine-free liquor. Its has recognised health benefits: a powerful antioxidant, rich in mineral salts that encourages the elimination of toxins.
honeybush: this relative of rooibos, grown in South Africa, has been used for a long time by South Africans for its medicinal properties. Its flowers smell of honey, hence its name. Also caffeine-free, it contains flavonoids (antioxidants) which encourage the elimination of toxins and have draining properties.
moringa: also known in Africa as the “miracle tree”, this highly nutritional plant with emerald-green leaves is recognised as a “superfood”. Naturally rich in antioxidants, vitamins, essential amino acids and minerals, it is ideal for gently draining the body and supporting weight loss.
African mango: also known as wild mango, it brings a flavorsome touch.

This tea is made up of ingredients grown organically and has several organic certifications: AB label, EU certified organic food label, Ecocert organic certification, USDA Organic label.

Palais des Thés Advent Calendar – Day 5 (from November backlog)

This is surprisingly fragrant, although it does smell a tinge medicinal as well…

Hmm… The flavoring is quite light here, not that I would know what moringa tastes like anyway. It has a slight tropical note, but mostly it tastes like rooibos. There is a tinge of medicinal flavor, but it’s not overwhelming. Woody is the dominant note, and it does create an itchy sensation in my throat.

This one is not for me. I don’t mind red rooibos lately, but this takes it a bit too far, without enough added flavoring to temper its less positive qualities.

Palais Des Thes Advent Calendar Day 5:
Another Detox tea but honestly the order doesn’t matter so much to me I’m just happy to try them all.
The dry sachet of this one smells mostly like red rooibos to me.
Once steeped It has more of a fruity flavor that I can definitely tell is mango. This tea tastes quite similar to a tea my family brought me back from Europe. That one was ICA Rooibos & Mangosteen. This tea has a much higher quality rooibos since it is a loose leaf. This one is also more fruity than the other tea. I really actually like this one and could see myself drinking it as a nice caffeine free option. If this was on sale I would consider purchasing some of it. It’s not the most interesting tea but was still enjoyable to drink. This resteeped pretty well a second time.

This was actually my least favourite of this line up, which surprised me…

I thought that the mango notes themselves were fine, albeit quite generic. Especially when paired up with a rooibos/honeybush base. It reminded me a lot of Tea Taxi’s Tropic Thunder, actually – just less sweet/juicy. The thing that really sort of ruined the cup for me was the surprisingly strong smokey characteristic is had? Like, I have no way of even attempting to guess where it came from but it was super powerful and reminded me a lot of hickory smoked wood? With a gamey sort of quality to it too? It was REALLY unpleasant, and completely unexpected given the tea description.

I might try this again just to see if it’s consistent, but wow… It was not good.
