From Palais des Thés

Pure Indulgences Lavender is an exceptional new flavored tea featuring a single natural ingredient.

This magnificent green Oolong tea from China is combined with fresh lavender, whose powerful fragrance spices up the tea’s plant notes.

Semi-oxidized Oolong is a specialty of China and Taiwan, this tea comes in many varieties depending on the growing region, tea plant variety, and manufacturing process.

Pure Indulgences are the result of a lengthy process of selection and development, motivated by the quest to find the perfect balance between the tea leaves, which have their own gustatory characteristics, and the finest ingredients (delicate pieces of fruit and flowers and only all-natural extracts).

From *Nicole*’s Christmas card! Thank you! Brewed Western-style.

I’m wary of non-“pure” oolongs, but the lavender and oolong surprisingly complement each other. The aroma is clearly in favor of the lavender – very fragrant, a good thing I’m a lavender/aroma lover. However, in the liquor, the notes of this lightly oxidized oolong are able to appear without effort. Floral, creamy, and slightly mineral-y. The floral flavor is what allows the lavender – which isn’t overpowering at all – to be able to steep so well with the oolong.

I love lavender more than people should. I opened the bag and was punched in the face with it. I was worried it would get that perfumey, soapy taste, but I was very pleasantly surprised. It was soft and floral and I could taste the oolong alongside the lavender. It tasted great with a few steeps too, but the balance of lavender and oolong differed a bit each time. Highly recommend.

Backlog:

When I first opened the package, I was a little unsure about this tea because the scent of the lavender is rather jarring. It took me by surprise just how strong the lavender was. But although the lavender is strong in this tea, it doesn’t overpower the flavor of the Oolong nor does the lavender end up tasting perfume-ish. This one gets big bonus points for that.

The Oolong starts off delicate and buttery with undertones of vegetation. In later infusions the Oolong flavor starts to emerge more as the lavender becomes more subdued. I found the transition between each infusion to be really interesting and I found myself looking forward to seeing just how much the taste would change from cup to cup.
