Having this with a little cream today. I tried it plain, but there was a harshness to it. Maybe I over steeped it, should have read my last tasting note before making another cup. I’ve had this tea for several years and the flavor has held up pretty well, but the tea never captivated me in a way that helped me get through the near 4oz minimum Palais has for their teas. There are few teas from Palais that I have enjoyed. There was one blend I threw away, it was that bad. This one is okay. Pleasant enough, but lacking something to make it really special. The light floral flavor of the violet isn’t tied in well with the tea base. Adding the cream mutes that a little. The aftertaste is a nice lingering violet, but this isn’t a hearty morning tea which is what I was searching for. I could see this tea being better after dinner, but I’m not inclined to drink caffeine so late in the day. I think this tea is going to make me a little more cautious about violet teas in the future, but also wary of such a large minimum purchase for a tea I haven’t tasted.

Pulled from TTB 2022, shared by Dustin.

Circling back to try a couple of blends I botched the first time around. I’m afraid this cup’s no good either. Maybe this tea’s just not for me. I hope someone else down the line really likes it!

From Dustin’s advent. I really enjoy this one, and will repurchase at some point. Easy to drink. Nice balance of violet over the black base.

I’ve been curious to try a violet tea ever since I joined Steepster and realized they existed, and I’m very grateful to Dustin for letting me sample this one! It does, as Dustin says, taste like violet candies, which is about what I expected. And I like violet candies pretty well—not all the time, but once in a while. The violet is strong, but not too strong and perfume-like. I’m just not sure that the base works very well with the intense floral, though—it’s sort of malty and almost chocolatey, and it makes for a weird combination with violet. I think something lighter—some delicate green, or maybe even a white (though I’m not generally fond of those) or a green oolong (same, although Butiki’s lamented Rose Violet Calendula Oolong was wonderful)—would have worked better for me. I’m enjoying my cup pretty well, but I can’t quite get past the discordant notes I’m picking up on.
