From Numi Organic Tea

In the Moroccan spring, the snow melts off the Atlas Mountains, watering the plains below. As the days warm, some of the most soothing, refreshing and full-flavored mint flourishes in this ancient land of the Berbers. With a flavor as light and lively as a newly picked leaf, our choice organic mint will become your favorite mint teasan. An all-day or after-dinner delight, no wonder the Moroccans drink ten cups a day.

Today is just an iced tea day, and I feel like I’m drinking gallons of the stuff!

This was brewed along with a generic white tea bag and then poured over ice. I must admit I usually prefer cold brewing a tea if I have time since the ice dilutes so much of the flavor. Nothing too remarkable about this, it’s straight up spearmint I believe, but it seems very refreshing today with our Indian Summer weather!

I got the assortment of 18 teas to try, and for some reason the idea of mint tea appealed to me tonight.

Only… not so much.

It smells amazing. Like candy canes, like dad’s old work thermos, like my childhood. Without sugar, though? Oh, ugh. Mint tea is awful. I’d rather eat a candy cane, thanks. It tastes like grass and leaves the feeling of toothpaste as it evaporates off the tongue.

I’ll probably try this again after I’m done with the no sugar thing, just to see if it tastes as good as I remember when I add sugar or honey to it. :)

oh no…. sometimes things are happier left as memories? =0\

OMGsrsly

I’ve never had mint tea without honey or sugar in it! What a rude surprise!

Plunkybug

I thought you couldn’t do mint?

I thought it was OMGsrsly’s close friend that has a really serious issue with mints.

OMGsrsly

My BFF is hideously allergic and I’ve been without minty things for almost 15 years now. I’ll occasionally get York peppermint patties or a candy cane around Christmas, since they’re sure to be peppermint and not spearmint. I do not like spearmint flavoured things. Ugh.

Backlog:

I received a bag of this tea in one of my foodie boxes. Very minty. The aroma reminds me of doublemint gum. Crisp, cooling and vibrant tasting. This is made from “Nana Mint” which is not quite as powerful a mint flavor as peppermint or even spearmint, and I like that it’s not conking me over the head with too much mint. It’s mint … but it’s not too much mint.

Not bad.

My fiancee always makes me a cup of this tea if I am overly nervous about something. It does calm me down and settle my stomach, but I have never really liked it hot. I think I prefer it as an iced tea with just a touch of sugar. Then it is wonderfully delicious!

As soon as I got to the office today, I had a message on Facebook from a guy I went to high school with, asking if I wanted to have coffee as soon as possible. So I left the office and went to a coffeeshop downtown that I’ve never been to before, since I don’t drink coffee.

They had quite a selection of tea, but nothing that was too appealing to me. I always like mint, so I gave this one a shot. It was pretty good, but I’m spoiled, I think. I’ve had a lot of better minty teas!

I didn’t think I’d be able to, but I can actually taste the differences in this brew from a standard mint tea. The tisane doesn’t have nearly as much of the tongue-numbing menthol taste as peppermint tea has for instance. It has a fuller, sweeter flavour with a bit of a green taste.

I suppose not all mint teas are created equal after all. ;)

A pleasant strong spearmint flavor, reminds me of mint julep and candy spearmint leaves (especially since I added sugar). The directions say to steep 5 to 6 minutes, and it is definitely necessary to achieve a strong flavor. I love the taste of mint, and I love the fact that this is not mixed with green tea. This would probably make a great iced tea in the summer.
UPDATE: You can get a second steeping out of the bag and still have a good strong flavor.

This tea was my everything while i was travelling in San Francisco- i decided to back pack. It rained the whole time- hot, humid rain. Lucky i stumbled upon this tea. It was so refreshing and cooling- that it became my beverage of choice. Each time i was out exploring, this tea was in my backpack. Just sips away.

Bagged

Aroma when Dry: lingering Soft, slightly powdery, velvety sweet, minty
(western)
After water is first poured:. dessert like minty, almost vanilla notes
At end of steep:
Tea liquor:
At first: pale spring greenish
At end of steep: deep russet brown

Staple? YES! Looking into the loose leaf next
Time of day preferred: Any, but early morning or late at night it is lovely
Season: Summer preferred
Taste: cool, smooth, minty, woody, slightly flat
first notes:
As it cools? Notes open up greatly, start to hold their own, I can taste “layers” of minty goodenes, and it starts to sweeten naturally.
Additives used (milk, honey, sugar etc)? No. Have used honey and agave when chilled in a blend with other herbals, both work, but are unneeded in it plain. Love floating pine nuts in it when warm, is a great accent (was introduced to Moroccan mint this way in restaurant.)
Lingers? Yes with smooth, crisp minty cooling notes, no afterbite.
Also great (better) cold/cooler.
