One thing about Ninas rooibos blends is that the base is always present. Now, with that said, there are different kinds of rooibos and while most can be offensive (medicinal/metallic/etc.), theirs is not. Nonetheless, it does distract just a touch from their subtle but lovely flavorings. However, today I found the key to tempering the rooibos…eggnog latte of course :P.

I was a bit hesitant at first because I made this in my latte mug which is 24 oz and Nina’s teas tend to do best in smaller cups but it ended up being awesome. The caramel was rich and decadent. And the cream really shined when paired with the eggnog. The whole cup tasted like liquefied creme brulee which made for a nice way to end the night.

Fjellrev

Wow, you’re still finding eggnog? I’ve been running around and can’t find it anywhere since before xmas.

VariaTEA

I bought over 10 containers just after christmas

Fjellrev

Holy crap, way to be. I should have stocked up on soy nog when I saw it. :/

VariaTEA

Haha thank you

OMGsrsly

LOL. Go VariaTEA! I have a couple soy nogs still in my fridge, but I’m starting to crave plain additives for my teas. :)

Going to try this caramel flavored rooibos from Laurent of Nina’s Tea this evening. Once again i’m happy that i get the chance to try these rooibos samples. Got one more to try after this one and thats Lion. But first things first this is poisson or in english Pisces…

On my first cup i’m doing a 3min brew like usual. The dry leaf are the same like the other rooibos samples but this has some square pieces of what i’m guessing is the caramel. Those pieces are rather big so i’m expecting a strong caramel flavor.

Once the tea is cooled enough i’m onto tasting it. The color looks wonderful and it smells a little bit like toffee candy’s. When drinking and tasting i can clearly make out the caramel and its a bit creamy. Less then i expected tough. This one is a bit weaker in taste then the other rooibos samples i had. But thats possibly a mistake on my end by filling my tea infuser a bit higher then usual… sample size was the same then all others but i was to hasty measuring out the amount off water.

I’m starting to like rooibos more and more thanks to these samples, only rooibos i had before that was a unflavored one.

going to give this no rating (if thats possible i’m trowing the rating bar down to zero) because of the mistake on my side.

Have to say i did enjoy this even tough its a bit weaker then usual!

Thanks to Laurent for the rooibos samples! I’ve actually only had rooibos once before and did not care for it too much. Anyway, I didn’t look up what flavor this was supposed to be because I’m trying to train my nose/I like surprises. Upon smelling the dry leaves, I definitely detected the sweet tones of caramel. Likewise with the tea, there was a strong caramel scent. The caramel was not as strong in the taste of the tea, but still made for a decently sweet cuppa.

I’m not giving this an official number rating yet because I’m still trying to figure out my feelings about rooibos in general and don’t want this tea to get caught in the crossfire just yet. Good thing I have more samples to explore!

Rooibos wasn’t really my thing, but now I find myself craving it at night…. yup. I said it. I crave rooibos! (never thought I’d see the day…)
This was a lovely sample sent to me from Laurent at Nina’s (THANK YOU!!! :)).
For a nightly rooibos, this is perfect…absolutely perfect. Caramely, and creamy, with a definite toffee-like quality. My cup managed to cool, as I found myself distracted by pokemon (yeah…pokemon. I was playing pokemon ‘x’….that sounds so uncool….), but the cooled-down cup was just as good as the piping hot one.
I really loved this, and will be adding it to my ‘must buy’ list.

Definitely tastes like caramel, even in the aftertaste.
It doesn’t have the strongest smell, but then again, my sniffer isn’t always the sharpest due to allergies.
Not sure I’d buy this again, but I have enjoyed it as a free sample! (:

Thanks to VariaTEA for sending me a sample of this in a swap :)

I am generally unimpressed with rooibos blends, although once in a while I find something really good. I really wanted to try this one because… my husband is pisces. ;) This one turned out to belong to the delicious rooibos blends group!

It is very caramely and the rooibos base seems to be just perfect. There’s no pencil shavings, no moldy wood, no other odd flavors. Just fresh, slightly sweet, unobtrusive rooibos expertly flavored with caramel bits. I enjoyed this one very much!

Thank you to VariaTEA for this sample! I had been wanting to try more of Nina’s astrological rooibos!
I think I brewed this a little too strong, but I don’t want to water down the rich caramel flavor! The flavor is more present on the aftertaste, but does start to show mid sip. At the beginning of each sip, there is this mild tartness that made me think this was a fruit flavor at first. My mouth is left a little dry, like most rooibos teas would. It was a very nice cup, but won’t make it to my “must stock” list although I do look forward to a cup or two more before the sample is gone.

I have never gotten a tartness from this. I will be sure to look for it next time I brew this cup…

So this one? THIS one is delicious… i find this caramel cream preferable to the version of caramel rooibos from Damman Freres. VariaTEA was awesome and sent this one my way.

Fun facts? This puts me at 1650 different teas tried since i joined steepster. It also brings my final count today to 204 teas after being pushed to 215 today after starting at 193. this also marks my 3807 tasting note….in uh 1 year, 8 months and uh 10 days. true story yo.

TeaLady441

OMG. So how much did you sipdown today?

Sil

uh…11 i guess?

Fjellrev

Good god, Sil. That’s more sipdowns than I tend to accomplish in two weeks.

Sil

hahaha… but cavo gave me single cup samples! so it’s like cheating

Sil

uh and by single cups..i mean sil single cups? :)

keychange

You’re friggin unstoppable!

keychange

11!! I don’t think I’ve accomplished that many sipdowns in six months!

VariaTEA

I AM AT 204 TOO!! Yay!! Also, I like this one too (it helps that it is my sign :P). If you want more, I am always happy to share.

TeaLady441

Haha. You’ve trained me well! :D

TeaLady441

Those Nina’s teas are trouble. The ones I split with tea smell so good that I’m immediately thinking about my next order. An order I’m not allowed to make until 90 more sipdowns… :P

Sil

I will place an order in April…..it will be for 4 tins from a&d. I’m going to try not to allow myself any other orders beyond that unless I get down to my oldest teas being within 6 months.

TeaLady441

4 tins of A&D is an awful lot of tea! (But not awful tea. :P) That’s so tempting… I need to empty more tins first though.

Anna

Those NUMBERS.
