From New Mexico Tea Company

The true candy-like spice character of the cardamom comes through in the cup. Lovely aroma.

EXTRA INFO:
It is easy to understand why this highly aromatic spice is sometimes called the “queen of spices”. Bite open a pod – the flavor will fill your mouth and a warm sensation will spread throughout your body. Cardamom is a cooking staple in many Eastern countries and is second only to black pepper in terms of usage worldwide. The first historical mention of cardamom dates to the 4th century BC in the writings of Greek Physician Theophrastus who claimed the pods had medicinal value. Modern usage of the spice however stems from the cultures of southern India. The people there held the spice in such high regard that they used it as an offering to the gods during religious ceremonies.

Black tea, cardamom

I grew to really enjoy this tea. It tastes exactly as it presents itself- cardamom and black tea. Adding honey really helps soften the intensity of the cardamom.

The cardamom in the bag smells SO STRONG, but actually there’s just a nice hint of it in the tea. I think I might prefer this to the chai, but I can’t decide yet.

My latest sample from visiting the local shop. This tea smells so good. Really like the scent of cardamon. There is a nice spice flavour, it’s almost like a masala chai. It also has a little bit of a dark malty taste. (Would probably be better for snow season.)

I sipped down the sample that Dexter sent me a while back. Made a strong cup with the rest of the leaf and then made it into a latte with lots of sugar. Probably more sugar than I would have normally needed, but I had this right after eating two bowls of Lucky Charms, so my sugar meter is way off.

I think this had lost some flavour due to poor storage on my part, but it was still very tasty.

If I’m looking for more flavor I sometimes will crack a cardamom pod or two and add it to the leaf for a bit more of a kick – but I LOVE cardamom. :))

Anlina

Ah that’s a great idea. I also love cardamom.

Dexter

LOL I quite often add more cardamom to chai blends too…. especially if they are cinnamon or ginger heavy – I feel it smooths that imbalance out a bit…

Lindsay

I am so doing that next time I have chai. :)

Good idea!

Shockingly sweet and smooth, and even though it’s 10pm and I’d really like to get some sleep tonight, I want to finish this cup. It’s just so tasty! I do love cardamom mind you, so I’d recommend a love of it prior to trying this tea out.

Huge thanks to Dexter3657 for sharing this with me! 1.5 tsp in 12 oz.
